Congrats on the new card!!!

May I ask what the reason was for the initial decline?

Re: Amex Gold...which Amex revolving card, and when to apply?

The CSR didn't ask me anything, I was told to process a recon to submit a fresh copy of my credit report, with a copy of the denial and a short letter explaining what was incorrect in the denial letter. I submitted a fresh TU report. The CSR told me they would review the report, then pull another one as well. (They pulled TU). I'll have to find the letter to post the reasons, but if I recall correctly there were something like 5/6 reasons (!) most, if not all I felt were incorrect. Recon took 20 total days start to finish.

Do they pull EX or TU before denial?

Ok here are the reasons:

Your consumer credit bureau score from Experian is too low (See below)

Your debt with other creditors relative to the available credit as indicated by Experian. (Util was 8% when I apped)

Our assessment of your monthly payments in relation to outstanding debt on credit card accounts, as indicated by Experian.

The length of time you have been a customer with American Express is too short.

Length of time accounts have been established. (AOA 3.5 years)

Proportion of revolving balances to revolving credit limits is too high.

Too many recent credit checks. (3inq in 12 months)

Proportion of loan balances to loan amount is too high.

Thanks!  Also, I need to make a correction to an earlier post.  I didn't send Amex a sole TU, I paid for a 3in1 through truecredit (Transunion), so Amex got all 3.

Does that mean Amex decide on their own to pull TU for recon, not because you persuade them to go for TU?
I hope they go for TU for my recon but unfortunately, they repeat again on EX.

Re: Amex Gold...which Amex revolving card, and when to apply?

Amex pulled TU on their own, I didn't have any special requests for reports b/c they're almost nearly identical in my case.
