Hi friends!

Just curious - what's the usual time to wait as a new amex charge customer before apping for a revolver?

My first personal AmEx was a revolver. I currently have 5 AmEx revolvers, and never had an AmEx charge card (unless you count my Corporate AmEx).

What 5 revolvers do you have?

I got my Amex charge card 3 months after I got my Amex revolver. So -3 months for me, I guess.

If you end up applying for the Delta Gold Skymiles, try this link to get a 45k miles offer: https://www.creditcards.com/cardmatch/

I think that promo may have expired. When I tried it back in June, Amex's system said it was no longer valid.

I'm curious as well. I just had to give one revolver up to get another today and the credit analyst I spoke with told me the maximum I could have was 4. I would have loved to keep the one I closed.

I initially app'd for the PRG and BCP on the same day.  Got approved for the PRG and denied on the BCP.  I app'd for the BCP a couple more times and then did get approved for it about 3 or 4 months later.  There's no hard and fast rule, but at least a few months of good payment history on your charge will help your chances on the revolver.  Good luck!

When you applied the first time what cards and limits if any did you have and for how long? I'm just trying to determine how much having a charge card with Amex really helps with futher approvals. Of course, charge cards are easier to get but I am wondering if with a year of open revolvers and excellent payment history with other CC companies will be enough for amex to give me a revolver or if getting a charge card at the six month mark and having solid payment history for six months prior to app will make all the difference with my chances.

When I applied for the PRG and BCP initially, in July 2012, I had a Chase card and WF card for about 15 and 10 years or so, and then two more Chase cards I got in May 2012, and a Discover card from 11/11.  The old Chase and WF cards were 7000 and I think about 20,000 respectively, and the two newer Chase cards were 8000 and 4800.  Discover was at 1700.  I think having a solid 6 month payment history on a charge card will really help.  The PRG is a good choice - 25000 bonus points after a minimum spend and the AF is free the first year.  I doubt you'd need it for more than a year.

Re: Amex Revolvers

I waited about 2 months between getting the Platinum charge card fird then applied for the BCE. Both approved. There is really no sayuing with any of these card companies. You will see mixed reviews/experience that's why we use the term 'YMMV' a lot.

Re: Amex Revolvers

I've never had an Amex charge (probably never will) and was approved for the BCE.  Scores are all ~660.

Guess I'm the oddball. They'll give me two chargers, but no revolver. Now it's just an inside joke (my monthly app) just to get my amex score. Eventually they'll get annoyed, and just throw me a bone. Smiley Tongue

I went 4 years of that with AMEX until they gave me a charge card, then a revolver.

Just checked the sky app from the 5th; still pending.
