I thought that backdating meant that Amex will backdate any new cards to any previous Amex card you may have already have with them. However, I just saw that a poster had no cc's but later got 2 Amex, both backdated to 1988. So, what is this Amex backdating all about?

Maybe he had a corporate card previously with AX, I know they backdated my personal card to my corp card date
Your right about backdating.
the previous poster you read about probably had a Amex card that they got back in 1988.

That would have been me I suppose. I had an Amex previously in 1988. The two new Amex I just got were both backdated to my original Amex card member since date. If you prevously had a Amex card, any new Amex card you get will be backdated whether you still have that original card or not. My new cards did not come backdated, I had to call them and they sent backdated replacement cards.
Ah ok. Thank you. Does another company's Amex count, such as USAA's Amex?
Better way to word is is keeping your member since date. Amex doesn't like the term backdating.
I've been having a far fetched thought recently, I highly doubt it would work, but im wondering if its possible to have my 2013 AMEX card backdated to 2001 to match my grandmothers original AMEX account that has been closed since 2006 - but shes only an authorized user on my card. hmm.

Unless you were a cardmember in 2001, it will not work. It will work for your grandmother.
Hmmmm...so in theory, getting a backdated AMEX card will not hurt your AAOA correct?
