Re: Amex no HP for 3 cards

@BrutalBodyShots that's an intriguing point, however I think most people aren't into credit cards enough to take advantage of it to a point where it'll become an issue in throwing off this checks and balances...there really aren't that many people looking to maximize rewards to the point of getting multiple cards like that - most people I talk to are like "oh it's just a few bucks a year" but they miss the forest for...not even the good trees, they're usually considering the sickly withering dead wood. But anyone who isn't responsible with their credit probably wouldn't be able to get an issuer to give them multiple cards so readily like that, as someone irresponsible would likely end up with late payments etc etc.

Overall, this is intriguing to say the least. I am planning to apply for the Ameriprise Platinum/Ameriprise gold/and amex Hilton honors all on the same day, the plan was to combine hard pulls into 1...but hey looks like I can avoid them altogether, I've had a bce for a few years

@AnonymousCongrats.  Amex has been doing this for well over a year.  Lots and lots of new approvals without any HPs.  Wish other creditors would follow suit

Out of curiosity, why do you wish others would follow suit?

I have no dog in this fight at all, but I actually think it's a good practice that a creditor hits someone with a HP when they are applying for a new product.  I just think it's an important part of the checks and balances system; anyone should be able to tell when one is seeking [new] credit.  The argument about SP vs HP on CLIs I think is much more balanced, as it's not seeking a new product, rather just an increase on an existing one.  If other creditors followed suit, on a long enough time line the end result would be HPs going away completely.

Sure it's fun to think about that from our standpoint since this is a credit forum where most of us are looking to increase our scores.  That being said, the elimination of any scoring criteria that could adversely impact score is always going to sound appealing in a way.  I think when you take a step back though and think about it, less HPs really isn't a good thing.

I would like to hear your take on it though, as different perspectives are always great to hear.

I would like to chime in on this BBS if I could.  There really is no need for a HP in the fisrt place if you are an existing coustomer.  They give you your free monthly EX monthly, SP and they use their own internal scoring data that they have to determine your credit worthiness.  They know more about you than you think.  So in short the checks and balances are in place for them all ready.  It is really an extension of a CLI request as I see it.

I have to say capital one is back in the Stone Age to have to pull all three for existing customers if they want another card.

I had 75kMR w/ 5k pre-approved spend offers on both bus plat and brg.  There are many data points that they are SP w/o offers though.  You should be good, they had data that I have a business.  I always had my business checking account as one of my payment options when I purchased my business airfare travel, because it could be a chunk of dollars and made it a lot easier than moving money back and forth to my personal account, hence the data for pre-approvals perhaps.

Re: Amex no HP for 3 cards

For those whom received SP, got a question - were the cards only in the offers section or did you find a different card, through the offers section and app’d it?

When I go to my offers, it shows SPG, and my 2 cards (BCE and EDC). If I look at their other revolvers, it’s showing the Pre-Approved message. I’m just curious if I went to, example a different travel card, did your approval still resulted in a SP?

Yes. The rare chance aside if you're already an AMEX cardholder it'll be a SP for any new card you apply for.

I have had several approved via SPs and neither were in the offers section.  TBH I don’t even look there most of the time. If there is a card you want , app away...

Like I said, most of my SP approvals I got using a different browser where I wasn't even logged in.

If you're looking to maximize the signup bonus, you may want to look into what the offers are using a different browser with all browsing history and cookies cleared.

I'm not talking about Amex taking a HP for any data-acquiring purposes;  No doubt they already have all they need already, as you stated above.  One major purpose of a HP is to notify other lenders that credit has been applied for.  The same way Amex would want to know if someone applied for a Chase, Citi and BoA product last week, those 3 entities would also like to know via a HP if someone applied for a new Amex product.  That's the system of checks and balances that is in place that I happen to appreciate.

Re: Amex no HP for 3 cards

BBS. Ummm, creditors see all you accounts and when they were opened, w/o a HP, you've seen too many new accounts denial on this forum. What's the difference if I have a 30k EDP or a 15k EDP and a 15k BCE, it's 30k.

Also for years Amex wouldn’t HP you if it was a denial.  So there were consumers seeking credit from Amex that other creditors didn’t know about because the denial didn’t result in a HP.

Believe me lenders can figure this stuff out.
