Re: Amex preapproval link

hi dang, fico is complaning about the amount of the loan amount to balance. I'll pay off 40% and pay the balance every month for next 18 months. I dont carry balances and I do pif before the statment cuts and I leave small balance on my credit cards to report to CRA's. I am ok in that aspect. I need to pull my scores up by next month.

Re: Amex preapproval link

if you already have an amex card and you apply for another... I believe they just do soft pull... they are HUGE on keeping current card holders, and if you fall into the way of amex (paying in full not carrying balance) they are not afraid to give other cards to you.
but your charge accounts, green, gold, plat. are going to be easy 2nd cards to get because you can't carry a balance.
if you pre-approved, i would try it

No, this is not true, but it seems to keep coming up lately.

Any time you apply for new credit, expect a hard pull, regardless of whether you have an existing relationship with the lender.

This is true of all CCCs, including Amex.

Re: Amex preapproval link

normally I would say yes... hard pull is going to happen... but someone that is pre-approved apply and then pull credit report and see if amex does hard pull... they rarely do.

I'll update this thread in a couple of weeks when I apply for my Green or Gold.

Then hopefully we can settle this once and for all. Smiley Tongue

BTW, concorduser had existing Amex cards, applied for Platinum through preapproval link, and reported a hard pull, just as I predicted.

Didn't I see something about, if you're already a member, a genuinely pre-approved card will appear at the top of some sort of list on your account page? Seems like I just read this yesterday.

Since AmEx won't let me in at the moment, and I'm still crouched outside their kitchen door, hoping that they will offer me some scraps, I don't know what members' account pages look like. Yet. Smiley Wink

That is 100% correct MOD, sad thing is that DW has green card. She logs on to her account and does see preapprovals for other accounts there. But it's for the gold card rewards along with 125af, and for the platinum card with 450af. That sucks bigtime...Smiley Mad

Re: Amex preapproval link

I am not sure about other cards. But for Amex AF I think it is only a perception that membership fee is high. I dont feel that way. Even when we join Sams Club Plus program they charge $80-100 for the AF. Comparing to that I think Amex Gold AF of $125 is not that bad. Sams is only member ship fee, credit is seperate. Here we are getting Credit and Services along with free perks having amex though there is AF. I did not mind paying $450 AF for my platinum card. I am sure it is worth it by the end of the year.

For those that travel and do business entertaining, and I'm sure some other things that haven't dawned on me yet, I think they're probably great.

I don't know what they'd do for me in my present lifestyle --get me an extra hashbrown in my Mickey D's drive-through breakfast, maybe. If and when I create a major scene at work, and find myself being escorted from the premises by security, I might become a traveling consultant. If so, you can bet I'll be grabbing for those shiny babies!

Re: Amex preapproval link

I have a Blue, I checked out the link and it offered me platinum and Gold, which pretty much figures with my EX scores (about 735)

I checked and for me the AF is not worth it.  If I flew American instead of United, I would consider the platinum just for the airport lounge!
