I've been trying to find past information on Discover CLIs, but can anyone tell me if Discover seems to look for any particular types of behavior when giving auto or SP CLIs? I know that there are lots of theories regarding Amex CLI success (i.e. high usage, don't carry a balance and PIF before statement cuts, make one big payment over several small ones, etc.) - any similar advice for Discover? I got a Discover It a little over a month ago and was really disappointed by my initial limit (a measly $1,500 compared to my other two limits of $14,400 and $8,100. Heck, my initial limit on my very first card ever as a poor grad student with absolutely no credit history to speak of was twice that) and APR, and I was told that I would need to wait at least three months for a CLI request or 14 months for an APR reduction (intro offer). I've been using it regularly this past month and this is the first time I've ever had to be careful about approaching my limit - plus, it's hard to take advantage of 0%introductory APR with such a tiny limit. I've heard that Discover is often generous with small increases over time, but I've also heard of people who have had the card for years and never gotten an increase even with steady, responsible usage. So, any secrets or conspiracy theories out there? Is there anything I can be doing to increase my chances of getting some auto increases? Should I mimic Amex's method of high usage/0 balance or does Discover like to see you carry a balance? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Discover likes heavy use, doesn't seem to mind reasonable balances and few to no new accts. I think you're more likely to get a Discover auto or soft CLI in the garden versus app sprees.
I just hit the 6 month mark with my it card. I actually took 2 HP's to get my CLI up since I wanted to take advantage of purchases and a balance transfer at 0%. I have over 60% UTIL on the card right now with the BT I did. I did a chat and asked if I'd be eligible for a SP CLI, they said I'd have to wait till August 22nd (90 days from my last CLI). I can only speak for 6 months of card use but I never was eligible for SP CLI, and doubt I would have gotten a auto CLI. I've carried balances as well as PIF...also tried the trick mentioned about using CBR for an statement credit ($50x3)...no dice. I think it really is just random with Discover.
So now I'll pay down my Discover and use my Sallie Mae card, since Barclay is much more predictable with auto CLI.
The thing about discover auto cli i don't think there is any set rules. It took me 10 months to get mine, but i have read other people who got their after 3 or 4 months , who have sccores in the high 600's, so who knows what causes an sp cli
Just use it, I have gotten 2 random auto cli over the past year and I don't spend a lot on my discover it

+ 1 on that ...........I ran over 10k though my card and 14 months and i never got any auto-luv. I did get 2 SP CLI's (14 months of having the card ) within a 6 week period after i had been hitting the luv button (5 or 6 times ) but it always wanted to do a HP and i said NO

Yeah i would just use it regularly and just check in every few months , and i wouldn't do an HP. Your time will come when you get your sp cli :-)
