I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to call up Wells Fargo's recon line regarding DW's CLI request decline from last week. She initially tried to request via SP, but the credit specialist insisted on a HP, so she went ahead and did it but got flat-out denied. Admittedly, asking for a $5k increase from a $7k CL might have been a bit much, but we figured they would counter-offer, which didn't happen. Since she already burned the HP, is it worth asking for recon or should we just let it go? Her experience with the card (about a year old) has shown responsible handling (currently 20% util) and moderate spending over time (I'd estimate we'd pushed at least $10k through that account this past year), so I feel that a HP (taken from EX, FICO mid-700s) ought to have warranted some amount of luv.... $500, $1k, anything.
What say you all... worth poking the sleeping beast, or just slip away quitely into the night with tail between legs?
I have done my banking at Wells for ten years and this is what I can tell you:
They will not even consider a credit increase until you have had the card for exactly one year. After that, they will soft pull. I have gotten an automatic credit limit increase every 6 months like clockwork since I hit the one year mark. Started wit 5k then after 12 months auto increase to 6k. After that, 6 months later to 8.5k and then 6 months later to 12k where I currently reside. I should get another auto increase in about three months if it holds true to form.
- I have never asked for an increase
- it is always a soft pull
- I use the card heavily and never have a utility below 50-75%
- I have never been late or had any negatives hit my report since I got it.
- I have checking, savings, with them.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, that is some excellent info right there! DW's 1-year anniversary statement is either this month or next, so I'll just wait around and see what happens.
