My wife is entering grad school and we have been thinking about getting her a new Apple MacBook. Is Apple's financing through Barclays a good option? I guess my concern is we'd only use it for the laptop purchase so would it be a ding in our overall credit history to have an account that is otherwise unused?
I assume we would need to apply together. Both of our scores are in the high 600s, no late pays on our cars or mortgage and we have one credit card with a low balance through our credit union.
I guess I'm leery of credit in general after we dug ourselves out of the hole from the loss of my job and the short sale of our home in 2010.

they don't offer joint applications, so one of you will have to apply alone... they pull TU only.
It is a Visa card so you could use it after the apple purchase is paid if you wish or at some point apply for another Barclay backed card like Sallie Mae and move the CL over from this Apple Card.
just apply online and be prepared to call the backdoor recon number if denied or not given enough CL (they are great about giving more cl or recon denials.)

Great info. Could you point me in the direction of the backdoor number?

No but figured it would come in handy whether it is me or my wife. TU are both our lowest scores.
I got the card for my Macbook Air in June just so I wouldn't be out all of that cash up front. I still keep it active by using it for the occasional purchase. I figure it is a free FICO score and I can use it as an in later if I ever want a different Barclays product.
Cheers!
I got the card last month to buy a new Macbook Pro. So far so good. The website is A+ as is their customer service. Can't beat 0% on something I was going to buy anyway. By the way, I've applied for Barclay's rewards card a couple of times in the past 2 years, and been denied flat out. Instant 3.5k on the Apple card. Granted my TU FICO has gone up, but I also had 4 new accounts hit.
