So I have been working on improving my credit these past 3 years and have managed to work my scores from the mid 500s to the low 700s.
My largest CC was a Cap One Platinum that I have had since 1999. But the problem is that there are no rewards associated with this card as you are all no doubt aware.
So I decided to pull the trigger last week and apply for the Amex BCE. This was the card I wanted all along as I like the cash back rewards that it provides and I don't carry balances anymore like I used to, so it seemed like a no brainer.
I did the application and it came up with the dreaded 7-14 day message. Not to be discouraged, I immediately went to the online application status link to see if anything had changed and it came up that I was approved.
I can't tell you the feeling of joy at seeing that. I've come a long way in trying to repair my credit and this feels like a nice reward for my efforts.
I'm hoping to get my card today. I did receive the letter in which they give you your EX FICO score and mine came up as 724. It's probably a little higher than that since then because the day after they pulled my report, an old judgment dropped from my EX report! Oh well, I got approved anyway.
I hate to be trite, but congratulations. I have a plain old AMEX Blue card.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
The funny thing about my Capital One account is that almost a year ago, my limit was stuck at $500, as it had been for years before that.
Then one day I logged into my account and it was showing my credit limit as $5,500! I was shocked and actually thought it was a mistake as Capital One usually doesn't do that.
But a few days later I got a letter telling me they raised my limit.
Strange indeed, but it was very helpful.
Capital One was notorious for being stingy with credit line increases.
