you do realize you can add him as an AU and not give him the card right? I don't think it even needs to be activated for it to report.

Re: Authorized User with Social Security number

Does anyone know how long it takes to get AU reporting to show up on your CRs?  My folks added me to their Chase card July 1st but still nothing on any of my reports.  Chase would not take my social when offered and I live in a different city (so no matchup there).  Just want to make sure the bank can make the match.

Thanks.

Re: Authorized User with Social Security number

Amex takes SSN so they report under AU's SSN.  Most card issuers just report the name and address.  The credit bureaus themselves do the heavy lifting of matching names/addresses to the credit report of the AU.  So if AU and primary card holder do not share address or at least old address, AU account might not make it to credit report.

@j-casteel
Yeah i was gonna do that but im hoping that him knowing that if he messes up it will affect him and me, will teaching responsability and make him more cautious about how he uses the card.

Thanks Crashem.  Have not lived at home for a while (lol) so that address does not show on my CRs.  I'll make some calls and see if there's another way to match this up.

If i add say friend of mine say JohnSmith lives not at the same address i don't see it being reported at CR without a SS.

Easiest way is to switch one of your credit cards to your parents address, or dispute with credit bureaus and update address there.

I like it.  Good creative solutions.  I'll give #2 a whirl first.
