Re: Authorized user with different address and last name

I think that they have to have your ssn... otherwise how would it help you if nothing  gets reported on your ssn?

Thanks. I have seen conflicting info about whether SSN is needed. Many folks say that they just need enough info for the credit agencies to figure out who I am (address, DOB, etc.). Time will tell if this is true......

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything specifically on point.

My wife and I are trying to re-establish our credit. Her mom added us as authorized users to her Chase account. When she called, Chase only asked for our names -- they did not ask for address, phone number, DOB, etc.

Our last name is different than my mother-in-law, and our address is different too. We have not ever lived at my mother-in-law's address.

I am not at all confident that this will get reported. So, I had my mother-in-law call back and tell them that we have a different address, and that she wanted to make sure the info got reported. She was told that they do not take addresses or other info for AU, and they would not add any additional identifying information for us.

So, what do we do to make sure this shows up on our credit reports? I'm guessing Chase will tell my mother-in-law the same thing if she calls back.  Is it possible to contact the credit agencies and let them know we are authorized users on this particular account?

FWIW, she added us to her Capital One card as well. Cap One wanted our SSN, but I didn't want Cap One to make a hard pull on our report, so I declined to give it. Cap One did take down our dates of birth and phone numbers. I guess that might help the account make it into our credit reports. But I don't know if it will work either.

My sis added me to her 10 yrs old Cap1,no HP, they did ask for SSN. Also, Boa asks 4 ssn as well, amex too. SsN helps the account reports correctly in the case address is different

Re: Authorized user with different address and last name

SSN is 6th in the identifiers to tag a TL to someones CR. Name and address are sufficient but in the case of AU they usually dont report the TL in the AUs address its the primary whose address its reported on so unless the primarys address is on the AUs report as current or previous it may never make it on to their CR without additional ID marks like the SSN.

Thanks. Now I'm wondering if I can somehow get my name associated with my MIL's address. I guess that might make the TL show up on my report. But I have no idea how to go about doing that.

But then I'm also wondering if having an additional address on my report would raise any flags with mortgage lenders.

You can change the address on one of your credit cards to your MILs that will create the address on your CR, may work maybe not. Have no idea what a ML would think of it though I think it would just appear as a prior address as you will switch that CC back to your address once the address is reporting on your CR. I would first get you MILs permission to use her address for this purpose.

What if my MIL and I have a prior common address? She lived with me and my wife for several months a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure she changed her credit card mailing address to our house for that period. I wonder if that is enough connection for the TL to make it to my CR.

Possible but only if that address is reporting on both your CRs.

Re: Authorized user with different address and last name

I am AU on  my mothers CSP.  We have different last names and addresses (and have the entire time I have been AU).  It does report correctly on my EX but not at all on my TU or EQ.
