Awaiting receipt of my Amex Green and wondering ...

  • I've been following a thread on where to use and not use Amex ... and how to spend ... to avoid credit limit decreases and even FR.

Does this also apply to the Green charge card?  (spend and PIF) I personally don't frequent bars or go to casinos, but do go to Walmart and Marshall's/Costco and Sam's, buy groceries and gas, spend in restaurants and on travel (most of airline and hotel are paid for by other).

  • I've also read that Amex will in fact set a spending limit based on my spending habits, and that I should notify them before making any big-ticket or "unusual" charges. I'd hate to be embarrased when I use it.

Thanks for your comments and help.

As a charge card, Amex will monitor your spending habits/CR's for patterns ESP in the first few months. Use your card as if you would use any other cc Ie Walmart, McDonalds, Costco, gas stations.

Although it might be wise to inform them of planned large purchases, it's really up to you.

I have an Amex Green as well. As Lexie explained, Amex will monitor your spending habits for patterns and then adjust to your use of the card, they also take into account your income and other factors (as they like to say themselves lol). You shouldn't worry initially. Let them know if, say, in 6 months you suddenly need to spend money on an unusually big purchase, that's what I usually do but otherwise you should be fine.

I was a little cautious at first about how and where I spend with my Green. But after a while I realized that I have a pretty plain vanilla spending pattern, so I just settled down and used the card as I would normally use any of my cards. Everything's been fine and I've seen no AA.
