BBVA Experience (What in the...)

I applied for the BBVA Compass Amex on 12/31/2015. I was declined because of "unable to verify identifying information". Immediately upon receiving the letter I filed a CFPB complaint to have my application reconsidered as this reason was bogus, this was on 1/6/2016. I hear nothing and still have heard nothing. I receive a PIN in the mail on 1/11/2016? I receive the card on 1/13/2016 activate it and attempt to use in Publix, declined. I call CSR and they inform me the account is closed. This is crazy. I have never had so much trouble with a credit card company. I have proceeded to file complaints with CFPB and BBB to reinstate the account as I have done nothing wrong. I fail to understand how a company can act so flaky?

Sorry to hear about your troubles.  After reading about all the troubles people have had with that bank on this forum, I can't imagine why anyone woud want to open an account with them.  'Flaky' is an understatement.  I hope that it eventualy is straightened out in your case but the scenario you document is exactly the same as others have experienced.

Heheh you're kidding, right?  Filing CFPB complaints isn't exactly a good way to get on a potential creditor's good side.  I think what happened is they ultimately approved your app even though the ID verification didn't work at first, but then after they got the complaint(s) they closed down your account.

Did you try calling them to ask about the ID verification before going off on all these complaints?  Not that it matters now.

Re: BBVA Experience (What in the...)

So they declined you for identity issues and yet send you a card anyway? Albeit a closed one. Man I have never seen such an incompetent bank in my life, I know there will be a bunch of people say "I love em never had a problem" and that's great but this is not an isolated incident, this bank is beyond ridiculous and needs some serious oversight.

The decline letter was dated 12/31/2015 it was never declined for lack of a verification call, it was declined because BBVA has something going on with their computer equipment.

Before I filed the BBB complaint I reserached if others had success through BBB getting accounts reinstated. There has been success. My alternative is to sit on my hands.

I think your best bet will be the CFPB

Re: BBVA Experience (What in the...)

They are worse than flaky. My mother has a CC with BBVA and my brother was an AU on her account as he did a lot of errands and taking care of her. One day his card was declined. When my mother called to see what the issue was, she found out that they had just cancelled his account as an AU, not hers, just his. What a way to run a business.

Anyway, good luck OP. I hope you get the result you desire.

The way they operate and from the incidents I have read on here, they seem to act more like a small credit union than a large bank. I bet their fraud department never sleep haha.
