My friend got a BOA Student Platinum Visa about 4 years ago when he was 18 and was provided with a reasonable $1,000 limit. About 2 years in, he did a CLI and they denied him, even though he had no negatives and always paid on time. He has a paid off $5k LOC from Chase and a paid off auto loan. This is his only credit card. He has perfect payment history, but recently his utilization has been very high (90%) due to emergency reasons. To compare, I got a Citi student about a year after (when I was 18) he got his BOA and now I have a $10k limit on it. Any suggestions on how to get a CLI would be great (hard pull is fine).

Util. needs to be lower than 10%. I'd say the high util. got the denial by itself.
i have that same card and got it with that same limit when i was 18 too. i asked for a cli once a year cuz i thought thats how long you had to wait for one. i have maxed out that card couple times but always made sure the balance was 0 when asking for a cli and i was always accepted.

hey, thanks for the reply. what is your limit right now? i'm going to tell him to pay it off then do another request (he hasnt done it in about 2 years).

my limit was 3k just last week but i used 2k of it to get the bofa amex. the highest limit you can go in that student card is 4k tho. if he hasnt asked for a cli in 2 years tell him to call and ask for the highest cli theyll give him but make sure his balance is zero by the closing date.
I have this card too. I just go it right before they discontinued it.
Is it crucial to have it at $0 balance when requesting a CLI?
Also are they going to do a HP ?

might not be crucial but everytime "i" asked i made sure my balance was 0 by the time my statement closed. like i said ive maxed out and used the hell out of that card and had no problems getting cli. and idk if its a hard pull.
