I have an ancient BOA card. It is currently listed as:
BankAmericard Rewards Visa Signature
Despite the great interest rate, I have no real use for the card. Can it be product changed to the BOA Travel Rewards card?
Do BOA product changes have any caveats, such as losing the account history?

You'd be looking to change from a core card to a core card, so it shouldn't be a problem. You don't lose the history either.
The only real PITA is that they're slow as molasses to complete the actual cutover and get you a new card, usually 3-4 weeks.
No dice. Front line rep initially said yes but then said it showed as not eligible. The rep said she would transfer me to a different team. I ended up at a voice menu that appeared to handle new card applications. Hmm.

It can be done! Ask for a supervisior. Be persistent
Are you me? I'm in exactly the same situation. I'm trying to PC mine to Cash Rewards, but that's not a meaningful difference. I stumbled across a team of specialists who are more knowledgeable than the regular CSRs. One of them advised me the best way to trigger their system to make my card eligible for PC is to stop using it for a while. I'm doing that and calling back every month to check on status.
Was this previously an MBNA card? With BoA their CSRs rarely know how to do a product change. It CAN be done, you just have to hang up and call again. Maybe a few agains.
Account history definitely remains, just the rewards change. And the card itself, when it eventually arrives.

Push back. They should be willing to accomodate particularly since you're looking to convert from an obsolete to a current card. There may need to be some APR-related tweaking but that isn't insurmountable either.
Thanks all.
I think this was the one that used to be an MBNA card. I'll bother them about it again.
Feels like I'm on shaky ground if I'm disagreeing with the esteemed @K-in-Boston and @coldfusion, but their comments do not match my experience with this card and this process. The reps I have spoken with have been very knowledgeable about product changes, and eager to do one for me... right up until they discover that this particular card is not eligible in their system at the moment. Same thing has happened four times. They offer to PC my Travel Rewards (which is eligible) but I don't want to do that.
I tried 2 more reps and a special number today. Still no dice.
