In 2020, I also apped for that Synchrony Verizon Visa debut. I never tried so hard to get a card beacuse I had a feeling that the SUB would be pretty good- as you noted about $500. The SUB was $1,000,000 IIRC. The $1M would be split amongst those that were approved as charter VV card holders.
I had like three calls into Synchrony and even had to Fax some documents over the course of like a week. In the end, no approval for me.
I did learn about how the CRA they used (SageStream) was quite antiquidated. SageStream highlighted that my Mobile phone's area code (Atlanta) did not match up with my mailing address (Florida). Quite lame. I was bummed.
However, I also recently switched to TMo. My pricing is the same but the TMo service is usually 5G vs VZ's NoG.
Heads up - you may run into a payment issue with your last VZ bill. After my number ported, VZ disabled all access and I had pay a Serivce fee to square up my final balance.
@blindambition wrote:It's been a long time coming, but I finally cancelled Verizon Wireless. The service I've had since 1992, when I was 20 years old. My SO and I went with T-Mobile. They work fine in my area, and soo much cheaper than Verizon.
I swore I'd never have a Synchrony card, but I got the Verizon Visa when it was released in June 2020. Strictly for the autopay benefit, and terrific SUB. Received over $500 on that SUB. No real issues with Synchrony, only multiple reporting the first 2 months. Payments posted promptly, and no autopay hiccups. Those were my only concerns.
Switched phones on Tuesday. Last Verizon bill will post the 20th, but turned off autopay and removed Verizon Visa. I'll put last payment on Cash Plus. Verizon Visa was $0, closed this morning. 😊
I can now take advantage of the 5% cell phone category on Cash Plus. No more lame Verizon Dollars, which only have any value on Verizon. 👏🏻

That's a bummer about card and SUB. Verizon doesn't make it easy, but found link to access disconnected accounts in FAQ. We're saving some money, and like you, we consistently have 5G instead of LTE.
@tricie17 wrote:@blindambition and anyone switching to T-Mobile. They have a tendency of switching your plan and also they will also generate higher bills when their problems can not be fix. By the time they fix the problem, the bill has tripled. Watch your bill. T- Mobile also has a lot of hacking.
Thanks for the heads up! I'm not too worried, I watch our accounts like a hawk. I'm aware of the multiple breaches. They have had a few. Our reports are frozen, we use other forms of MFA and I change our PWs monthly. Gotta love password managers!! 😊

I can't find a way to disable SMS as an allowed form of authentication. Set up Authy authentication but still offered SMS as an option, so effectively no security gain.
Congratulations on tidying up your lineup!

The SMS option does still show in list, so not as secure as other websites. I did also turn on Account Takeover Protection, so I'm hoping that helps to protect account and numbers. With a long passcode

Good thread!
My neighbor switched phones and set his house up with T-Mobile for everything and is very satisfied.
Also, feels the pricing to be fair. We are somewhat rural, and our neighbors are forests, so connectivity is not a problem.
Thanks @Anonymous!! It's always nice to see you pop in!! 🤓

@CYBERSAM wrote:Working in the industry I like Verizon reliability and really like Verizon Visa card!
However if you can get a cheaper service that works for you then why not! Its easy to move your old number around.
Also T-Mobile is partnering with Starlink, so this could get interesting!
Right @CYBERSAM , I heard about the Starlink partnership.
Seperately, it would be very neat if Tmo would approach an issuer to offer a cool credit/loyalty card.
