Balance transfer to new credit card

What effects does balance transfer to a new credit card within the same company (e.g., Citi) have on your FICO score and credit worthiness?  Does the old account get wiped out completely and the new one take its place? Or does the old one stay active with a balance of zero?  My current account has a 15k credit line and I've had the account for about 6 years.

The new card offers some benefits not offered by my current card, and the introductory 0% APR is also enticing for large upcoming purchases I have.  Obviously, I'd like to keep the same (or higher) line of credit and the benefit of having an account for 6 years.

Thanks for any help

Re: Balance transfer to new credit card

You generally can't BT to another account with the same lender.
