So in February my Navy Federal accouunts got hacked and all my money was taken from checking and savings and they applied for credit. All of my payments automatically gert paid from my checking, so NFCU closed my account because of the fraud and all my payments were returned. I called and talked to all of my creditors and BOA was really nice about it and said they would help me in any way they could. I took care of the payments and asked them if I could fax them my letter from NFCU proving what happened.....they said it wasn't necessary and that I had my account for 3 years and never had a late before.
Today, I get a letter in the mail saying they closed my account and to cut the card up and to continue to make my payments. The letter says they reviewed my account because I had a payment returned too many accounts with balances and sufficient utilization of my available credit.
They just raised my limit from $500 to $1500 two weeks ago!!!!! I can't believe this!!!!!! I know my score is low 638 according to BOA, but I just got a new car 2 months ago and that helpd to bring my score down.
I got this card in early 2015 and it was secured......they graduated it in 8 months and I have never had any lates or anything, until I got hacked!!! Any advice???
That sucks OP. Did you call them back to confirm? I know sometimes when things like beng hacked or a security issue happen it's automatic that a letter goes out despite what someone on the phone saw and said. Any chance they closed your account but issued out a new card and account number?
You should gather all the proof you can that this happened and find someone in Corporate that will actually review the account... see if you can fax the information directly to a specific person above the CSRS so they can manually reconsider you. Look in the backdoor thread for any different phone numbers. Someone else here would probably have more info.

If you have a banking centre where you live I would go in and visit an Account Relationship Manager. True, they are there mostly for the banking (checking etc) but they do have the ability to contact the card division. Worth a shot. I would bring fraud affidavits and any other supporting documentation with you to support your issue.
Sorry to hear about the closed BofA account, I have had accounts closed with balances, so I know it is frustrating but there should be minimal impact on your scores. Just pay the balance within terms and you will be fine. If it is on a low promotional APR, that will still be valid.
I am more interested in how your accounts were hacked at NFCU. Was this an online hack, or someone managed to obtain or create a debit / cash card to work through an ATM? If on line, any of your other banks compromised? Getting a checking and savings cleaned out is a nightmare, but any insights you can share may help others here to be aware.

This is one reason I never ever ever use my debit card for purchases or make ACH transfers to anyone but billers. Not that it won't stop some insider at the biller from selling info, but its added security.
Sorry this happened to you, OP! I had it happen to my debit card when I was in my early twenties before I learned not to use it for online purchases. Luckily, my bank stood by me, and I expect NFCU did as well. But it was still a horrible process to go through.
Total Cards: 24 | Total Limit: $304,250
Current FICO 8 Scores: EQ: 841| TU: 815 | EX: 814

So sorry that happened! Best of luck to you in your dealing with all the issues involved.

Good to know. We had BOA a while back and there was an issue with the checking and credit card thanks to a mess caused by Paypal glitches and BOA credited the cash back in the checking account and overdraft fees but wouldn't touch the BOA CC and said we had to deal with that over the phone. It had to do with what someone said above about ACH....this was an old paypal account that was connected to a checking because they made you connect it to a checking when you sell on eBay.
But yeah, at least a account manger can sit with you and confirm your identity and should be able to do something in this case. Even if it's faxing your info directly to corporate to make it more legit that you're in the banking center.

It was hacked online, and they got into my account and set up a new transfer account and then applied for a loan also. It took exactly one month for them to get it all straightened out on their end....then it took me almost 2 weeks to get them to send me a letter to give to my creditors.
It was a big mess, and let me tell you...NFCU was of no help at all!!!
BOA doesn't play games I remember when someone tried to take money out as me they were denied access top notch security BOA has never felt more secure.
All I know is I'm not happy that they charged me the $39 annual fee 5 months ago......I think I should be entitled to half of it back, since they closed the account. Why pay for something I don't get to use.....I will never go back to BOA.
