@longtimelurker wrote:As has been mentioned in other threads, 3% on categories is not a whole lot more than 2%, unless you spend a lot . This card doesn't seem to have a bonus, so compare your spend in the categories to see if the extra rewards over a 2% card would exceed another card with a decent sign up bonus, e.g. so to beat a $200 sign up, you need to spend $20K in these categories (wiith gas capped at $1,500 per quarter)
I'm not a sign-up bonus chaser. It's always a plus (and as always, you make excellent counterpoints), but personally I was looking at the overall benefit of a card over time. I like the reward structure of this card in particular in that it covers three useful categories that probably sees the majority of my spend. With a card such as this, I can carry it and a 2% card (Blispay in my case...my DC is SD'd) and I'm set.
I applied for the card and was approved after a minor application hiccup and a day and a few phone calls later ($8500 limit). I can't say what bureau they pulled, but I hardly apply for cards so I wasn't worried about the HP.
Now I'm planning to close my Chase AARP card (I did get a $200 sign-up bonus on this one), which is now redundant and not as useful and move that limit over to Freedom Unlimited (another card I don't use). I keep chasing cards that allow me to minimize and this card just checked more boxes that I need checked than others I've seen, so I'm grateful to the original poster of this thread for bringing it to our attention.

I think it's a really nice looking card, but I suppose that's subjective!

It took me a long time before I saw what that card image was supposed to be.
cards shouldn't come with built in Rorschach tests...

What do you mean? It's CLEARLY a drug dealer loading some bricks of coke into a silver 2009 Toyota Camry.
Isn't it?
I'd stay far away from Bank of the West.....but maybe that's just me.
