My unreasoning hatred of the BCE is not compared to the BCP.  It's that the Sallie Mae card is almost certainly better for nearly everyone than the BCE.  The exception is if someone wants their first Amex, and there the new Everyday might still be better.

My calculations indicate a Sallie Mae always beats or ties a BCE. And at an average weekly Grocery spend of $75 or less, the Sallie beats even the BCP. If you are married and both have a Sallie, then two Sallies are a clear win.

These calculations only include Grocery and Gas Station purchases. The Sallie also has a large 5% cash back on Bookstores/Amazon.com which can push the calculation firmly towards the Sallie if you spend alot in that category.

Right, though to be fair we need to point out that BCP gives 3% in certain department stores which for some could be some heavy spending (although as another poster observed, usually store cards would give bigger discounts).  And above a certain level, you could also consider 2 BCPs.   But if you are doing ~ $12K in groceries, the BC is probably a better choice.
