Barclays CLD

Hi all,

So I got an email from Barclays telling me about a credit card from

Priceline Rewards Visa offering new bonuses etc,I thought "Hey I have that card"

So I signed into my Barclays account and they chopped my CL from 5K to 1K

Wasn't what I expected at all LOL!!! Now I remember getting the card

because it was basically a free night at the hotel I picked if I got the card

from the popup using priceline. That was two years ago and I dont think I

have used it since so I'm not surprised when I think about it. But how cheap are

they getting if they gotta take a lousy 4K away? Oh well am posting this so

everyone can have the data points.

Cheers

Re: Barclays CLD

I don't think it has anything to do with them being cheap.  From a quick glance of your history, you opened 5 cards last month and Comenity started closing cards on you.  Barclays doesn't like that behavior either so I believe this is why you got the CLD.

"The CSR at Comenity listed the sole reason for closure as excessive credit seeking. The app spree was more of a month long binge that netted about 100K. This closure was deserved and no bad feelings on my part about Comenity."

Re: Barclays CLD

Thanks for reponding to my post Overmedicated,

New accounts

Might have played a role :-)Not using the card for

a couple of years also too.As far as far as them

not liking my behavior, well that's ok.  I don't

take it personally.

Cheers

Lol...Barclays and Comenity certainly have a reputation for AA.  IIRC, someone else recently with the same Barclays card just got their account closed for non usage.

Sorry UH_HUH.

But just as i mentioned in my 5/3 CLD post, Barclays is world famous for being the CLD Hatchet King.

However, not using the card for that period of time at all and then loading up new accounts? Well, Barclay is like a vulture on those matters.

Thanks for the kind words CreditMagic7 :-)

There's nothing to be sorry about here though,

IIRC my Daughter and I had a blast with that

free night at the Sheraton

they paid for,and haven't thought about that card since :-)

Hope you have a great day!

Barclays is been well known in this forum FOR YEARS as being the absolute most notorious for swinging limits at their cardholders and at the first sign of another new account or mediocre raise in utility, swooping in like a hawk.

Although i've had my own taste of late of CLD from the Regionals, when i did have Barclays Ring Card, as much as i hated to part with it i took proactive action and closed it myself after a flood of Barclays CLD posts littered the board of members getting the axe.

Never looked back again either. They're not exactly Prime Material as Prime's go although they wanna be.

Re: Barclays CLD

If you opened 5 new cards in a month, a CLD isn't all that surprising. Lenders don't like excessive credit seeking.

I don't say this to be harsh, but I really wish that we could see people move away from the trend of blaming the lender and start trying to change their behavior for the future. The bottom line is no lender wants to see excessive credit seeking. Some are more reactive than others, but if you just say "oh well, just how Barclay's is" and move on from them, but continue the same behavior, it doesn't make you immune to other lenders doing the same thing! It's not a Barclay's issue, it's about realizing what credit behavior you may need to change going forward.

For the record I'm not a huge Barclay fan or anything, but this is not exclusive to them at all.

Re: Barclays CLD

Thank you for replying to my post kdm31091,

If I was Barclays and I paid for someones hotel room

and then never got a swipe from them in two years I

would close that account. They chose to CLD it <shoulder shrug>

Oh well. It was never a long financial decision on either of our parts.

Offering cards on a hotel site as a "pop up" and me

accepting it, do not a long marriage make in my book :-)

Comenity can have their card back also,No ill will on my part,

even wrote that. Risky behavior is allways something you want to

warn others about. As for myself, I have been raising my 11 yo daughter

alone for the last four years as her Mother chose to live in Europe.

Major Life Changes, job, time management, school, financial planning etc.

That's a  major commitment, and one that I plan and think about quite often,

but a credit card I dont use? Not so much. :-)

Cheers
