Both Pizza and Humuhumunukunukuapuaa have peaked my curiosity.  For those of you that have a Barneys card, what was your score when you got the card?  Also did you get it with SCT or regular applying?  Said I would not do another store card, but if my score is okay, then I will.  My EQ FICO 8 is 635, but EQ FICO 5 is 670.

Another perspective, I applied and was approved for a Barneys card  one week ago.  During the month of July I open 13 new accounts (excluding Barneys) in which generated 5 inquiries. Several of the accounts were with Comenity where I utilized the SCT.  They did pull Experian and my score at the time was 668.  I received a 1500.00 CL.  It was no more difficult then Neiman Marcus, SunGlass Hut, Amazon, Total Rewards Visa, Modell's Visa or any of the other accounts that I have opened recently.   There is no pop up for Barneys, and my decision was instant.  Good Luck!

Which FICO version of EX did Barney's pull?   My FICO 2 and FICO 8 are higher than FICO 3.  Between Lowes, Amex, and Discover Card apps and my Lowes purchase,  My FICO 3 has dropped 35 points to 641, so I'm hoping that when my UTI goes down my score will go up and put me in an acceptable range.

My Experian score is generated from Experian credit monitoring.  I don't get into all the different version, lol!  I do know that it can be different though.  My TU FICO is better with Walmart and Discover, then with Capital One.  Just recalled though, while my Experian score says 668, I recall my Barneys ApprovalCongrats saying my score was 687.  I  don't know if this helps?

It does. Thanks for responding.   I guess I was asking cause I know that Cap 1 is all over the place when using scoring models for approval.  All my TU scores are the same with Barclay, Discover, and Walmart.

Comenity uses fico 8. Like most lenders. Don't concern yourself so much with te other scores. If you are going for car or mortgage. Ok. I could see the concern. But for credit cards it will be commonly used scored. Fico 8. Sometimes fico 8 bank card. Some credit unions use older versions like my Gte card in my siggy. But it is rare. If you want yo know what bank pulls what simply go to credit pulls database. Insert lender and your state. Wherever you live and you will know who and what they pull. Good luck.

There's only 1 person listed in the credit pulls database for Texas and they were turned down for the card with a 543 score and it was EQ, but knowing that it is FICO 8 makes me feel better.  I'm trying to be more thoughtful about when and where to app because when I started rebuilding, I would apply with Comenity just cause I knew I stood a good chance for approval, rather than a card I would actually use.  Thanks for the information and advice.

How fast did any of you with barneys get your limit up to 20k?

Took me 3 months, and then 2 months after that It was at $31k.

3 months to 30k. Wow. I might have to sacrifice and hp an some AAOA for this. Hmmm.

Realizing that you'll be incurring some higher than normal travel expenses in the coming months, do you have any savings set aside or other liquid assets so as to offset some of these CC expenses?  This in turn would avoid tapping into another CC that will really be of no benefit (other than artificially padding your utilization).  Plus, weren't you kind of contemplating obtaiing an automobile loan soon as well?

Weigh the pros and cons taxi.  Even if you get approved for the BNY card, there's no guarantee that you'll get the astronomical CLIs that others are getting in such a short period - as you know, it's all based on your profile and YEMV.  Just my .02c

Yes. I have plenty of savings.

Thats why when i return. i want to use my savings to pay most of the bills. and when gone paying bills that do not take credit cards. keep in mind. Most of the things over there. They don't actually take credit cards. So where i can i will use. Like hotels. plane tickets and restaurants in major cities. In the countryside. it is a cash only adventure. but i want to carry as little as possible in case of a mugging. So 1. i will wire myself some money in case of emergency and no access to atms. and 2 leave money at home besides whats is my hidden wallets.Also. will get loan(auto loan) before i leave and make sure i put about 4 months of payments in the bank. So thats why i have been very good lately.

No apps what so ever. Also question for you?. My AAoA will hit 1 year in a week or so. Should i expect a boost? i doubt it.

Sounds like you have a solid plan.  Ok, you mentioned "countryside" which reminds me of my friends when they visited their family in Vietnam - tiny villages way beyond Ho Chi Minh City... they had a blast, but you're right - cash only.  Are you venturing into China, Thailand, Philipines or ...?

As far as your AAoA, as long as you don't add anything to your file for a few months it would be my expectation you should get some sort of boost (just depends how thick your file has grown and any rebucketing factors).  Hopefully, the aging inquiries will help too (and the removal of the derog has helped tremendously in your favor!)

Re: Barneys Question?

I wouldn't go for it for the exact reasons Finstar laid out (other than having no need for a store card)

Re: Barneys Question?

Yep. I'm going to all 3. But first. Macau outside hongkong. Then Philippines. 2 weeks in the south. But friends fear for me there so changed that a little to stay in the north. Then bangkok. After. Shaghai. And I'll finish trip in tokyo. Before returning home. It's too bad. So much crime in Philippines. So I had to change plans. But I think my financial plan is solid. But can't help but wanting to boost my util. Not knowing how much I will actually spend. So I'm thinking the day I get the car. 2 more cards. Lowes. Which you are right. Will not be useful. And venture. Which can be useful in case of emergency. Maybe I should let me util hit 20% or so and it will make me stronger to put it down.

Re: Barneys Question?

Hum is right on the inq's.  I did cold app and got approved with only a 2k sl.  But foot is in the door.  I think I would have done much better waiting a year.  I think you should wait at bit.  Get scores up a bit more.  They pulled EX on me.  So I do have the most inq's with them.  I don't believe they do the SCT with Barney's.

I think you should wait too.  You need to get your EX scores up.

Totally false!  The inquiries did not play a factor in getting approved.  I have many recent and older inquiries with Experian and I was approved.  Secondly all of Barneys apps are cold, no pop ups for anyone.   Most of the credit cardholders of Barneys receive limits  of 700.00 to 2,000.00 and you "work" from there.  Maybe others want to get their foot in the door like you did!  There are great benefits for people opening Barneys like unbelievable CLI's which reduces your utilization and ultimately increases your credit score.  It is a hard pull on Experian and each individual needs to weigh the pros and cons and if it coincides with their goals.   I just got a measles 250.00 limit on Bon Tons and within one day of approval, my limit is over 10,000, so I ask you why should I have waited?  So 6 months from now they would have approved me for 500.00, lol!

There are more diplomatic ways to get your point across. Smiley Wink  And actually, you are both partially wrong. Approvals will vary with differing credit profiles, on some profiles 5 inquiries may get you declined, on others however you could have 100 inquiries and get a higher starting limit than most. It would seem that there is no rhyme or reason to it, but when the instant approval wheel is spinning it is looking at more parameters in your report than you even think exist.
