It was either Chase or HSBC. At one point, they were both servicing and you could apply for either.

Yeah it depends on who the lender was and what records they had and could have possibly transferred to the next lender
I don't know about Best Buy, but I know Kohl's holds a grudge!
It's Citi now, I know after about 2 years of inactivity, and switching between banks, they close accounts without a word.
HSBC backed BB 10 years ago. A relative of mine carried they card when it was HSBC. I have BB and at this time is is backed by CITI. They request hp for their CLI on average, and can be quite conservative with their limit increases.
You should have no worries now in my opinion.
Capital One was my BB Credit Card lender 10 years ago.
