I was just approved for a Discover IT with a 5500 limit. I just transfered aprox 2400 in balances over.
How much utilization should I use, and then how much a month should I pay to ensure Discover increases my credit line. Keep in mind i have 0 APR for 18 months with BT and 6mo 0 apr for purchases and i'd honestly rather pay the minimum during that time since theres no interest lol.
Is there a utilization amount I should absolutely not go over? I'm not worried about credit score at this point. Score drops due to util can go all the way back up in 1-2 months. My main concern is I do not want to scare discover into not giving me an increase in the future.
I actually started out with that exact same limit with my Disco It card. The best strategy? Just use it and pay it. I have always gotten increases whenever I ask for them with Discover--and no HP at that. In a year my It card went from 5500 to 14.4k. Love Discover!
how much did you pay a month?
because i could pay it off but i would like to take advantage of my 18 month 0 APR balance transfer lol ;p
My card started with at $8,000 in April and I maxed it out with balance transfers, paid $1,000 per month. After 90 days I asked for a CLI and they offered 500(declined it), I asked a week later still 500(declined it). When my 3rd statement cut I was at 120ish days because they reported May and July but they skipped June. So I waited to my August statement posted and was given a $4,000 CLI by hitting the love button.
Discover is wacky as others have stated.
I started with $2k that I put about $1600 on at 0% and more or less left it there the first year. They didn't have any issues with it and raised me to about $4k without my asking.
I've gone back and forth with either paying in full or letting promo BT's ride on this card for a while. I honestly hit the CLI button probably every 2 or 3 weeks. An extra $300 here, $400 there, and a little under 3 years later am up to $6800. Most recent increase was $900 just this week
