You remember what I call the QS1. The BRICK!
If I had made the mistake of getting a QS1, my opinion of Capital One would undoubtedly be much lower than it is now. The card is an awful trap and is totally meant to take advantage of subprime customers who don't know better. Capital One could do a lot for their image if they got rid of that card imo
Another vote here for Platinum.
Based on the description of what your goals are with this card, it doesn't sound like credit card rewards should be a priority for you right now. Keep in mind that you'll have to charge $2,600 on the card, every year, just to break even on the annual fee. Meanwhile, that $2,600/yr ($216/mo) spending requirement runs counter to what your primary goal is with this card - which is building credit. With that goal in mind, you should really only be using this card minimally each month to ensure you can always pay it off every month.
Not to mention, if the card gets approved for a low spending limit, then spending a minimum of $216 per month on it often involves the hassle of making multiple payments on it every month to avoid maxing it out.
