I imagine adding multiple people with limited history in the US is much more of a red flag than normal, typical family AU spend

They aren't, but AMEX by far appears to be the most anal-retentive over it and even they don't typically seem to be triggered unless the cardholder's spend is consistently at or close to 0%.
