Definitely a start. It should have been done immediately when they started doing the peak extra points cost. I'd love it if they just deposit the points every year in your account, though.

Bonvoy wants breakage and suboptimal  redemptions ("this one's going to expire, might as well spend it on this $129/night airport Springhill Suites"), which is why they don't just give you points (you would also be able to get multiple nights for 35k/50k FNCs if it was just points).

They also needed to do this because with getting rid of award charts to dynamic pricing, they're jacking up prices. I've seen lots of places with 36k/37k or 54k/56k pricing. This makes the FNCs still useful and sucks you into regularly putting spend on the card/program engagement  (so you can get more out of the certs), but it also caps off the usefulness (you can't book a 70k or 80k room with a 50k FNC).

I won't be shocked if they make other changes that try and make the cards less "I put it in a sock drawer and use it for the FNC" and more "you have to spend to get value on this".

OP thanks for sharing this.
Perhaps the major frustration I have had with my Bonvoy card is the free nights I look for, which are now just out of reach. This def makes those more useful and so this leads me to change my plan to close the card in September, to continue to use it.

It's a good day today.

@NRB525 I'm with you 100%! I've been waiting on this for a while. I still have some left over 50k certs from my Bonvoy CC SUB and everything is 60k. Glad it helped and I wasn't alone in waiting for this.

Cheers
