Buying Things Through Amex's MR Points Mall

When I use my PR Gold card at Amex's online retailers a message pops up saying 3x per dollar. Is this in addition to my normal 1x per dollar for a total of 4x per dollar or is it simply 3x per dollar total?

AFAIK (As Far As I Know), it doesnt work this way. If it says 2X or 3X etc, you only get that per $ spent. It doesn't add the 1X per dollar on top of that. I have used the MR Mall once so far and haven't received the points yet. But that's what the customer service told me. I was thinking just like you

I see. With my other cards the number they show is in addition to the standard 1x per dollar. So with airfare, when buying through Amex travel service, is it still 3x or is it 4x since your buying from them?
