@Anonymous wrote:Well.. Just another unfortunate update to make me pull my hair out some more. I spoke on the phone with a representative and was told the exact same thing over-- "We put a red mark on your account which led to a live conference with our analysts and we decided due to the $50.000 gift card purchase, which was against the terms and conditions you agreed to, we terminated your account and your card is no longer active. On the bright side, you can re-apply after 2 years for the Freedom card again!"
I hung up immediately after I heard that. Off to the website I go-- They will not get another cent from me. That's it.
It would be really interesting to get them to show you exactly where in the T&C you cannot buy a gift card. That is what is confusing about this.
Seriously why offer a 200 sign up bonus for 500 spend... like having a liquor store right outside a rehab facility... Not the best analogy, but this is kinda BS.

I am going to respectfully disagree. I would never let banks charge me interest on ANYTHING, especially when I can pay the whole entire balace off. Screw looking good in the eyes of the bank. They want to close my account because I pay in full and don't leave a cent for them to charge interest on me? Ha, I'll immediately switch to another bank. I'm already paying them a lot of money from those swipe & merchant fees daily they receive.
3 x 12 = $36 you are just handing the bank out of your pocket annually.
And to answer the question, it was just a regular Best Buy store gift card.

I actually did did bank with them prior to moving to BECU 2 years ago.
This is the kind of thing that makes that BECU credit card look better and better all the time.
These shut down stories are making me nervous!!! Chase is my favorite bank and i hope they don't decide to close my accounts as well
I have two personal cards (Freedom and CSP) and one business cards (Ink Cash) which was approved yesterday....I really like their rewards program and the card designs

Had you met the $500 purchase level requirement for the bonus on account opening? You said it was 4 months after account open, so it seems like that original spend requirement was completed, right?
And that is what I find really bizzare, the gift card doesn't fit in any bonus category if that original bonus spend is already past.

I see where you are coming from. But for me, points earned for flights / rewards - fees charged by the bank still lives me with a good balance/points to do as I please. You pay to play. But I got you..
Time to buy some gas on my freedom and hope this offsets it and I fly under the radar.. Obviously amazon tracks GC to chase, especially being a $100 exactl amount w/no tax..... Least it was sent to another state and address which shows it wasn't for me!
Am I getting worried for nothing on my Freedom?
I meet the perfect profile although I didn't even come close to maxing out the $1500 quarter, but did make the $500 spend in the first week then charged a few small things here and there after... Err really was hoping being with Chase was part of my rebuiding and still hope so.
