CLD on First Purchase...

CLD on first purchase...?  Yep that's right...Barclays/Juniper Carnival Sea Miles Platinum.  These people must be out of their ever-loving minds....I was approved for the card a couple weeks ago.  It came in the mail on Tuesday or Wednesday with a $2000 limit. I put about $100 on it over the weekend.  I pull up my account online and instead of the $2000 CL that was there before, it now says $750.  I was like WTH is that about.  I called and they informed me that their system had flagged my account and triggered the CLD.  It seems that if you take a cash advance, even $20, you get your CL zapped.  I tried to explain that when I activated the card, the system let me set up a PIN for cash advances and informed me that I had $2000 available for cash advances and purchases.  After about 5 phone calls, the account specialists would not restore the original CL no matter what.  I offered to PIF, no go.  I even offered to PIF and close the account to get them to restore the $2000 on my CR's. Still no go.  Well, I ended up PIFing the account and closing it.  What a scam they have going on over there.  Luring people into accounts with the promise of a decent credit limit and then CLD them on first purchase.  I reported them to the FDIC.  The lady there said even though what they are doing is underhanded and unethical, it probably isn't illegal, but if they get enough complaints, they will look into it.  There aren't any numbers to call corporate Juniper or Barclays either.  They give you an address to send a letter to.  I put a complaint on Planet Feedback too for what good it'll do.  Beware of these practices everybody.

Not the first.  I went to the mall and bought some stuff then stopped at the ATM on the way to the car.  I was changing bank accounts and didn't want any new transactions on the account I was closing so I used the credit card for 20 bux.

I ended up doing a cash advance as my first transaction on my brand new Amex card through no fault of my own.

I went out of town to gamble a bit. I authorized my hotel room on my debit card. When I checked my online backing, they authorized it for $750 more than the room amount for some kind of smoking insurance, in case I smoked in the room. The thing I signed was for $90, but they said there was nothing they could do about it, and that only the room amount would clear, which was true.

I wasn't about to have my vacation ruined over that, so I cash advanced a bit on the card. I felt bad, but I wasn't spending any money that I didn't have, so I figured no big deal.

Not sure I understand the reference.

Yes. That day, I learned from now on to never do an authorization of any kind on a debit card. In fact, about that time I quit using it altogether in favor of Amex Green and PIF once a week.

All the major banks seem to be keen on it at the moment - there are threads complaining about Amex, BoA, Chase......

So I don't think it is just Juniper

Re: CLD on First Purchase...

File a Complaint with the BBB. And have them remove it from your credit report if you want it removed...
