CLI vs new card considerations

In December, I added 4 CC accounts (3 of which are reporting -- AX in the fullness of time, if we live that long), and a HELoan (which has yet to report -- it's been 2 months).

In January, I was denied a card by Cap One (with which I have as yet no banking/CC relationship).

I'm contemplating CLI hard pulls for my BoA and Citizensbank cards, but am wondering -- would these issuers adopt essentially the same position as a new issuer (i.e. - you had 3 INQs in Jan, 6 in Dec (all spread evenly across the bureaus), and 3 new accounts -- you don't need  more credit at this time)?

In other words, if I'm going to go this route, would it make more sense to wait 'til late summer/early fall?

I'd wait until the new cards are are all six months old unless BoA inserts a prominent CLI link into your account page.

Re: CLI vs new card considerations

I would think that if you got denied for Cap One, you will prob get declined for CLI on other cards for now.

I would use the cards, pay the cards, then try again in 6 months.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: CLI vs new card considerations

I have two Citizens Bank cards and when I called in for a CLI, they told me that CLIs aren't available until a card is at least 9 months old.

How are you sure that they do a HP for cli?

My CB card is 8 years old, and has the same $6K line that CB provided 8 years ago.  I called them last month and asked how I might obtain a CLI.  Their answer -- you call us and request a CLI -- and, btw, it's a hard pull against EQ.

Wow that's crazy lol, I guess I won't be raising my limits with them. I got both of my cards via a SP preapproval so it seems crazy that they only do CLIs via HP, but I believe you.

If you have the Boa increase limit button showing, it means you may be eligble for an increase. Since they are mostly hp anyway, i think you could go for that whenever you feel the need. If your profile and income are good, they are generally generous.

Re: CLI vs new card considerations

Why not take a break from both new cards and credit limit increases for 6-12 months and let some of those inquiries drop off your reports?  What's your rush to get yet more new credit?

That would, of course, be the sane and sensible approach.  Not as much fun, but sane and sensible.  Really, tho', I do want to see my EX over 750 first -- which likely will be in the July-Sep timeframe.
