Honestly speaking, the only change I would like to come to the CSR, is for it to offer 1.5% on "everyday purchases"! #notaskingformuch
@Anonymous wrote:Plus, with the 10% anniversary bonus it effectively amounts to 3.3x and 5.5x, respectively, which is a slight improvement over the no-AF cards.
The growing consensus, and looking at the wording, suggests that the 10% bonus is on $ spend, not points earned, so these become 3.1x and 5.1x, which is better than 3 and 5, but not much better!
I guess the question is how do I optimize my wallet? If I figure I can get at least 2x on my Chase points with Hyatt.
Current wallet:
Chase Freedom Flex 3x (dining, drugstores) 5x (category spend)
Chase Fredom 2x bills yearly with paypal, 5x (online shopping)
AMEX Green 3x (food delivery, dining discounts), 3x occasional travel spend, MR points for online shopping.
Chase Sapphire Preferred 5x (lyft)
World of Hyatt 9x Hyatt, 5x (bonus spend), 1x non-category spend to 15,000
I can get away mostly with just the CFF, WoH and AMEX Green then in my physical wallet. Normally I only get the Green out if I have a travel item on the card like a third party hotel stay. Fills in the gaps where Hyatt won't take me.
Proposed wallet:
Chase Freedom Flex 5x (online shopping)
Chase Fredom 2x bills yearly with paypal key
AMEX Green 3x (dining discounts), 3x occasional travel spend, MR points for online shopping.
Chase Sapphire Preferred 5x (lyft), 5x (Chase Travel Portal), 3.1x (dining, food delivery, online groceries)
World of Hyatt 9x Hyatt, 5x (bonus spend)
Coinbase USDC Debit, 4x (non-category spend)
With the CSP now 3.1x I think it makes sense to have it at the top of the wallet for dining and also for food delivery. I've been using Green for food delivery since they had Uber Eats pass but that isn't a full delivery fee discount like the door dash program. Online groceries I believe would cover meal delivery services. There is also the occassional Grocery store bonus on the CSP which I've somewhat ignored.
WoH I get a lot of point promotions through the year. Right now I'm under 5x gas with them through 8/15. They even overlap somewhat with the Freedom Flex offerings. Its a card I want to keep in my wallet at all time too so I have it when I'm at a Hyatt. But I don't know if hitting the 15,000 spend target is realistic most years on non-category spend. I made it last year but just barely (had to buy an extra $1500 last minute to make it.)
With the Coinbase debit I could replace my regular debit card in my wallet. They are paying 4% for USDC in your wallet plus they are giving you 4% on XLM for transactions. Does this beat 5% category earn in the chase ecosystem, no but its definitely better than 1% earn. Its a prepaid card so its not the kind of card you want to stick bills on in case you go over. XLM could 5x in price at some point which makes the rewards worth that much more.
On hotels my first priority is Hyatt since I have the card and then Hilton since I have MR points. But it makes the most sense to transfer points from AMEX to Hilton when there is a 40% transfer bonus. Thus in the situation where I might want to stay one night somewhere, instead of turning to Hilton I could turn to the CSP and utilize my $50 dollar hotel credit and receive 5x Chase points on the difference. Good enough for a spot hotel here and there.
The odd man out of the wallet to mee seems like it would be the Chase Freedom Flex if they go through with these changes since I wouldn't need the dining benefit. Maybe I spend 10 dollars a month at the drugstore so I'm not going to keep a 3x card in my wallet for that. To be honest I tap more heavily into bonus point promotions on my WoH than what I do with the 5x rotator categories on the CFF. I had 5x gas on both the WoH and CFF this past May.

But it puts the CSP in the top of the wallet for dining and travel portal over the non-AF cards which is where it should be since it carries better insurance. AMEX Green though does you better on transit, particularly when they'll give you discounts at parking garages with shop small.
