Is it too late to use the travel credit in 2016 if you were to apply now?

I believe the wording is through the December statement date as opposed to December 31.  How does this work?

Edit: I did a quick search and it seems that most recent approvals are not eligible for the 2016 credit because their first statement date is in January. Some approvals in early December were able to have their statement dates changed from January to December but this is becoming more unlikely as the days pass us by.

Yes, it's too late.  As soon as the December statement is issued (even if you get one before the end of the year which is iffy), the 2017 travel credit kicks in. Quite  a few of us already have received the 2017 credit.
