Re: Cap One Credit Steps

I didn't even know I was in it until I looked at the 'my documents' section online. My card was opened in 9/2011 with a credit limit of $2000 (this is the platinum card with the $19 annual fee).

My credit steps letter says that I have to use my card at least once, and make my first 5 payments on time. After that, my credit limit increases to $2500.

It's just a one-time thing for me, apparently. It's also the only increase I will ever expect from Capital One.

Current Cards: Banana Republic Visa ($5,300), Chase Freedom ($2,000), Discover It ($11,500), Amex Costco True Earnings ($5,000), Chase Slate ($2,500)

Re: Cap One Credit Steps

I'm pretty sure the Capital One Credit Steps is a single increase, after you complete 2 Steps.  From my letter:

...Simply follow these two steps:

1. Use your card at least once.
2. Make your first 5 monthly payments on time.
That's it. Just complete these two steps and you could automatically get access to your pre-qualified credit line by your 7th statement...

It doesn't say anything about multiple CLIs, just the one and the two steps to complete to get that one.  Thus, Credit "Steps".  Not that your CL will increase in steps.

Hope this helps you and everyone else who asks about Credit Steps.  Smiley Happy

May not be a one-time thing!  After you get your 1st CLI you should still be in the steps program.  Look at the documents section again and it should give you a date when the program ends.  This date may not appear until you get your 1st increase.

Re: Cap One Credit Steps

I'll probably be stuck at these limits for a while...sadly I applied for the Walmart card...silly girl and got approved for $800, which is amazing...but I probably won't use this ever.  I just got it since you can get your TU score with it.  I'm just going to use that card to see when my score goes up.

CITI - $3500 - CAP1 - $750 - RZMC - $600 - BOA - $600 - CAP2 -$500 - Credit Union $500

TU: 707 (From Wal-Mart's website) * Finally made the 700 club!!!!!!!*

Where do you see this date? In the letter? or are you talking about the 'Available Until' date?

Re: Cap One Credit Steps

From what I understand and have been treated.  Cap One is not giving any consumer requested credit increases.

My first experience with them, they gave me a  card (now this is after six years after my BK was discharged) with a 500 Limit.  After six months they increased it to 1000 and then another six months to 1500. Now after three years of paying on time, more than the minimum, and never late, (these remarks are from there call center rep) I cannot get an increase at all.  They keep telling me that my card has a 1500 credit limit on it and that I donot qualify for any other type of card or program.

I would have to say that Cap One is only for people with very low scores that are trying to rebuild their credit, but as a mainstay card that will from time to time get an increase, I would have to say don't waste your time or energy.  Keep the card until your BK falls off your report then apply for a regular bank card and not theseSmiley WinkSmiley WinkSmiley Wink sub-prime lender banks.

Check your online account.  This info would not be in the letter.  If you don't see this info, it could appear at a later date.

Re: Cap One Credit Steps

The credit steps program, in my opinion, is there to make you feel valued...But yes, I have (had) 3 Capital One cards. I started out with a Journey which was moved to $750, then I got an MTV Card which made its way to $750. More recently I applied for the Playstation card which is NOT a credit steps card. My Journey card has been stuck at $750 since last July. Finally I chatted with s specialist and threatened to close my account, to which they gave me an immediate increase and re-enrolled me in credit steps. When I asked about increasin my Playstation card, I got the usual speal. I think since the credit line on the Playstation card ranges from $500-$20,000 I will have somewhat more luch having that particular card grow with me.

Is anyone familiar with Capital Ones credit step program?  Does anyone know how often credit limit incase are applied to accounts.  I've tried chatting with an online rep and it wasn't to helpful in my opinion.

Usually the credit steps program offers one "step" CLI right around the 6th statement. YMMV but there could be other "steps" but they won't actually confirm that. Contributors here have stated futher CLI's (very rare).

Re: Cap One Credit Steps

I have had my card for about one year now. I went from $300 to $500 after six months. Nothing since so I assume after I pass the one year mark at the end of this month it will stay where it is. I will let you know if it bumps though from what I hear it probably wont. I have used the card every month and over the last 6 months I have tried to keep balance below $60 and at $0 if I can.
