Cap1 Cash Rewards 4 Newcomers (to USA)

To welcome friends and family from abroad, Capital One is offering a Cash Rewards No Hassles card to newcomers to the USA who would like to establish credit.  Interest is a bit high, but if it's your first card... ummmm, "Welcome to the United States of America!!!"

Re: Cap1 Cash Rewards 4 Newcomers (to USA)

I'm interested in the card but am unable to find what the length of time or visa requirements are to qualify. I've been in the states for 14 years on athlete visas and have just received my greencard in the last year and now working. If anyone has any feedback that would be great. have more fico scores posted in my signature block

I am a us citizen and I have this card. Anyone can apply for it. It is by far the best starter card out there. Cash back without and annual fee is a good deal with limited history.

In six months after getting this card I was able to get AMEX green

In my experience, bank does not care what visa you have, as long as you have SSN.

They don't care about your immigration status, as long as you have an SSN (or even an ITIN) you'll be fine to apply for it.

You can have an L1 or H1B with a valid SSN and you would qualify.

Re: Cap1 Cash Rewards 4 Newcomers (to USA)

Thanks espnjunkie and to everyone for the quick responses. I've been really courteous with apps and really don't want the inq ding on my credit and not get the card. I never had a TU fico till 7/11 reporting a AU 15000 tl no lates 10 years 2 inq. (one due to drop off in April) A closed 2003 paid in full no lates car loan. I just got a fico generate this month from EQ for a secure card 300 cl with only 2 months history. It does have an old derog paid in 2007 that was a pfd (I'll be calling to follow up on that one) If you think this card would likely extend a trade line then I'll pull the trigger. Otherwise I was considering getting a second secure card and let them mature for 6 months before applying and will be getting a car loan with co-signer in the next few months. the goal is ultimately for a mortgage next year with a solid mix of credit to make it all possible. What do you suggest. Thanks in advanced The question again was... Should I app or wait?

Re: Cap1 Cash Rewards 4 Newcomers (to USA)

I went ahead and applied for the Cap1 Newcomer card and was approved for a $1000 credit line!!! Thanks again for all the feedback! I've spent a lot of time here on myfico working out the best options for my credit future, starting with no credit score in June last year to all three and scores in the mid 700's. I'm done now with apps for credit cards and will baby the two I have till the end of the year. Thanks!

Re: Cap1 Cash Rewards 4 Newcomers (to USA)

I don't mind my newcomers card, especially because of cash back with no annual fee, but Capital One is pretty stingy with CLI's. I got the bump up to 750.00 a month ago. I called in and asked if there was anything they could do because while my history was short I have always paid on time and in full for the past six months. I also ran about 1,500.00 per month through the card and just paid weekly. I know all the bs about them "being a conservative lender" yadda yadda, but if a person can charge the full limit of his/her credit card and keep paying it off immediately then a cli should not be out of the question.

I will only use the card for coffee from now on to show some usage each month. Aside from that everything gets charged to AMEX Green.

Sounds like a great alternative to secured cards for credit history builders Smiley Happy
