Greetings…as an existing account holder of their Platinum card since 2007..I called the service company and spent 20 minutes doing an over-the-phone application for a new card. I had no specific card in mind. The rep recommended their Cash reward card..based on some general questions about my credit history prior to pulling the report. (The call took so long because he just had to read all their “disclosures”). So, he processes it and it was denied, and then informed me to wait for the letter to see why. I immediately called recon…which was no help at all...because they could not see the reason for decline? I waited two days and called again this morning…they still don’t know why…same answer wait for letter. How can they NOT know? Has anyone found a way around this? I am determined..now..to right this injustice! Help me!
Thxs
I am only going to be frank with you...there was no injustice being served here. I app for Barclay NFL card and even recon. They wouldn't even budge. I recon Chase, 3times (for the Marriott card) they said no. However, AMEX Zync, Citi, Cap1, and Discover all approved me. I just took my business elsewhere. I know you really want this card, however, app for other companies. They don't have to explain their reasons. As for backdoor numbers, be lucky you came to this website because not everybody would know how to do a recon. most would just say, oh well and move on. Many here recon and had decisions overturned, others didn't, but we moved on, to bigger and better cards...
birjest:
what does recon mean? how do you do a recon? because when I started applying to my first credit cards in 2007/2008 I was denied a few and I moved on. Are you saying you have an option to have their decision changed?
thanks!
With capital one maybe you should of tried the prequal link first
There really isn't any way around it, as far as I can tell. I've had the same happen before, and there was absolutely no way they could tell me ANYTHING about why I was denied. Tried to call several times and speak to different departments - no help at all. I think Cap One just doesn't give their phone reps any access to that information, and you, as a customer, are not allowed to speak to the underwriting department.
Then again, just like with all information you get from Cap One, YMMV. There's just no predicting anything. But I'm almost 100% sure you'll have to wait for the letter to arrive, and I really doubt you'll be able to do much recon-wise. It doesn't seem like any of their reps (even their 'senior account specialist' or whatever they want to call them) have any say in the matter, it all appears to be computer-based decisions.
Well, there is a link at the top of the page call "backdoor numbers". You may be speaking to credit analysis or someone who can reverse the computer decision or a rep decision. If you can sell to them your loyalty to the card and how you want to have only their card, as long as you were in good standing with them in the past, and you have good credit score/report, go and recon (reconsider)...
Why do people continue to give Crap One the time of day...I will never understand!
