i used to have really good credit and i maintain great credit for about 4 yrs...now my ficos are in the 500s. and as far as my cards with CapOne, i have a gold mc-500cl, visa platinum-500cl, no hassle cash visa platinum-1,100 cl, and visa business card- 500..........i hope this helps.

I had my Cap One card for 2 months, I called the backdoor number and got a 300 cli, then after the third payment hit they gave me 500 more automatically to make total CL $1,100.  I think that maybe the "make capital one my #1 card in my wallet" promotion really doesn't exist...since noone here has actually posted that they received one.  If you have, please tell....lol

Wow, what did you say to them to give you a CLI after only 2 months?  I know a few  people here have stated that they have had great luck in getting CLIs.  I recall someone saying that s/he got a CLI before even having the card in hand.  I know Landocal. is good about getting CLIs. 

As for the promotion, I cannot say if the letter actually exists.  I only know of a letter because it is what I was asked about  on the phone.  I do not know when/how the promotion was advertised, if it ever were. Basically, when I called I told them that I would like to make this my number one card, but of course..... with a $500.00, it was hard to do  blah blah blah.  Minus the first part of the statement, it is the same thing I say whenever I ask for CLI: would like to use it more, would like a CL comparable to other cards.  Until now both Cap1 and Orchard have been a no go although I have had Orchard for about 7 months now with very low usage over the past three months.

How long have you had your card and do you know if C1 reviews accounts for CLI every quarter or so?

I have 2 Cap 1 cards.  The first one I opened ion July 2007, I waited for the auto CLI to 500 after 3 months on that one and called the backdoor number and got 500 more about a month after that. it's at 1000 cl now.  The second Cap 1 I got in October 2007.  I called and got a 300 CLI on that one before the 3 month "auto cli" hit.  When the auto CLI hit on that card after 3 months it gave me 500 for a total CL of $1,100.  So my oldest card has a 1000 limit and the newest one, 1100.  lol...go fugure

As far as for how often they review for CLI's...I would guess it's quarterly or maybe even monthly.  The Reps at the backdoor numbers really can't help anyone with a CLI unless the software they are using says it's OK to CLI you.  You can always request a manual review for a CLI though.  The backdoor number people at Cap One are usually pretty cool.  At least they aren't the ("script reading, broken english speaking") robots that usually answer the phone.

I have also read that some of these cards have a ceiling.  Do you know anything about that re: Cap 1.  I have the No Hassle Points card.

Thanks creditdrama!  I thought I was pushing it having a $5000 visa and a $500 cash rewards with them.  Wasn't sure if there was any limit.  As for my cash rewards card, they sent me a letter saying they would auto cli after the three month mark... I didn't see it so I figured maybe it took a bit longer.  What happened, at the 6 or 7 month mark I had a late payment so I didn't qualify for that cli anymore!  Im definitely thinking about calling them after all the stories Im hearing about people getting their 3month auto cli!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Cap One works that way.  If your initial CL is 300 then that card will max out at 2500.  It's probably like a tier system that they use.  Call it sub-prime, prime and super prime...the latter being the elites (780+ FICO).  But since they have all those levels, you can always move up.
