I got rid of the contactless feature on my American Express cards.
Riding a crowded train I had the NFC triggered on my phone, turned out I was standing right next a guy close enough my phone read his contactless card when I held it waist height.
With Android Pay and Apple Pay contactless cards are pretty much useless. Android Pay is so much safer as I can fingerprint unlock my phone as I am retreiving it from my pocket.
DId American Express get you a card without the contactless feature,
or did you disable the cards RF antenna with a sharp knife?
I've seen youtube videos of people disabling the contactless payment for fear of thef.
Speaking of Capital One cards - I just received their Preimier Dining Rewards Card, and it didn't come with contactless. It looks like it's for Venture and Quicksilver right now if anyone was looking to app for that card. The WEMC logo on the card is the old one too for some odd reason as opposed to the new logo. It looks like they glued it on there like the Citi Double Cash, though I'd say the card looks nicer than the DC!!!
EVERY card in the UK is contactless. For UK-issued cards, chip and pin are required for purchases over 50GBP, but under that amount, you can tap and go. As no pin or signature is required, it really is a 2 second transaction. Good to see these secure technologies are making their way over here.

Being a "Mr. Negative"
Now you will have to keep your cards in an RF shielded case to prevent the
person behind you in line, ya that guy with a portable reader from stealing your info.
Every new technology claims great advances, however most end up with a lot of problems.
I want a card that needs to be inserted or swiped. (I can give up 20 seconds of my time)
I would request a card without this "feature". If it is not possible,
my CC account would be closing.

"ohhh... I am so lazy that I can't take the time to swipe or insert my card..."
I don't use any form of contactless payment. NFC is disbled on my phone and I would be hard pressed to keep any of my cards should they switch to this. The thieves are out there and if given the chance, they'll steal your info at the drop of a hat!
Furthermore, are people going to be proactive enough to know when they'd be able to use this thing? I hate people who thumb around looking for the 'right card to use'... Pay and move!!!!

Anyone get one yet? How is it working for you?
I used mine last night twice and it worked great- very fast. I was using the Wallet app before the card arrived and that was definitely slower. And, BTW, I'm by no means lazy

What stores, out of curiosity? I've heard that the Citi Costco card's contactless feature only works at a few because of merchant software issues.

They are not "secure technology's", they are "convenience technology's".
This is to make it more convenient for you to spend your money and get more swipes.
However it also makes it more convenient for a thief.
If you lose your card or it is stolen and you don't know it. It can be used many time before
red flags go up. It does not require pin, id, or signature for small charges.
This easy fraud use, and potential access to personal data without the
physical card means "you are trading a few seconds of your time for less secure technology"

The way I see it is that the issuer has to refund fraudulent charges regardless. If fraud does happen as a result of these cards it's literally a five minute call on my part and the card's cancelled. Also, even if someone could read the cards from more than an inch or two away, it's likely going to net the thief a low reward for the work involved; it's much easier to hack a POS system or website and grab potentially millions of cards that way (see: Target, Home Depot, etc.)
Re: PIN/signature, I don't see these as any worse than our regular cards considering that the US is chip and signature. Most places don't even bother asking for the signature for small amounts anyway.
These newer cards use NFC not RFID. With NFC they use a one time token type system like the EMV chips do they don't actually send out your card information. I get why some would worry about it but its the way of the future.
