CareCredit CLI

LOL.  I called CareCredit and asked for a CLI.  The frontline CSR said that her system only allowed her to give me a $1000 CLI.  This would take me from $14k to $15k.  Okay, not bad.

I had asked for more.  She said that if I wanted more she could transfer me to Credit Analyst Specialist.  I said okay.  Well, short story, and after a 'hard inquiry' Credit Analyst granted me $800.

LOL.  So I ended up with $14,800 on hard inquiry when I could have accepted the front line $15k soft.

Morale of the story:  I was too CLI greedy!

Re: CareCredit CLI

TXJohn,

I'm thinking about doing Care credit for bottom veneers (had the tops done and now want all of them done!!)  Do you know who they pull and what kind of scores they look for, if they are score driven?

Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Starting Score: 682 EQ, 663 TU
Current Score: 687 EQ - 705 TU on 7/18/10

Re: CareCredit CLI

It's the risk you take if you push past a soft CLI when reports aren't in the deep freeze.

that's already the largest care credit limit around, ge isn't macy's tx, sheesh!

DCU EQ 5.0, Citi EQ 08 Bankcard, PenFed EX NG2

Re: CareCredit CLI

Thanks for the post, tx.  I've been watching for highest going CL's with these guys, and so far it was you at $14,000.

DH is at his six month anniversary with them, so we were going to consider calling in for a CLI, so your post is quite timely for us.  He opened with 8,000 and asked for a CLI upon receipt of card - they brought him up to 11,500.  I think we'll just let it sit.  It has about 1900 on it, which is about 16% and it's his only reporting cc balance.  We were using it for dental, but are now putting dental work on other cards and PIFing, in spite of CareCredit's 0% offers.  We have about $17,000 of dental for this calendar year (ARGH!!!) so we're spacing it out.

We are anxious to be rid of this card.  It came in as a Consumer Finance Account on DH's mortgage pull and on his CCT.  Good news is, when I closed my two GEMB cards that came in as Consumer Finance Accounts (JCPenney and Walmart), I got a two point increase in EQ FICO score, and a SW that having a consumer finance account is no longer hurting my score as much.  So closing them is a step in the right direction - and the impact will continue to decrease with time after they are closed (just as FICO says).  Just wish we wouldn't have opened them in the first place ;(.

At any rate, thanks again TX for sharing your story.

Re: CareCredit CLI

To address various questions:

CareCredit is derog and income sensitive moreso than score and credit sensitive.  My high CL is due to having excellent credit, but also due to relatively high income, IMO.

As far as CL, when you consider that veneers are $1000 per tooth, root canal w/crown can run $2000 to $4000 per tooth (depending if you need an endodontics specialist) and oral surgery costs....$14,800 represents an adequate CL for somebody who would like an interest free 24 month period.  And if not used...then utilization percentages are improved.

This year my family has had in excess of $32,000 in dental expenses.  We financed the majority ($24k) of it through Chase Health Advance on an interest free 24 month promo, about $4k on interest free promo with CareCredit and paid cash for about $4k.  After the $4k out of pocket and when we found out how extensive the work on DW was going to be is when I obtained CareCredit and then Chase in order to better serve cash flow and take advantage of the interest free promos.

I will have it all paid off in about 18 months.  But just dumpting $32k into dental at one time was more than I wanted to do.  I would have if the interest rate wasn't free, but since it was, why deplete that much cash?  I'm done shopping credit, so I'm not worried about showing some balance.

As always, IMO IME only  Smiley Wink
