Re: Chase CC and Online Gambling

Also, online gambling is expressly addressed in the T&C.

The worst thing that can happen is they close the card, right? They wouldnt close my checking and savings too would they?

No, not a big deal. Chases is going to be concerned these are fraudulent charges, they aren't.

Just wondering if Chase is going to shut off my credit card.  I went to get a haircut the yesterday and my Freedom was declined.  I have made some deposits to an online sportsbook and they recently quit accepting my Freedom card.  Like a moron I just kept trying to deposit, maybe ten times over three days.  I called the 800 number on the back of my card and was told that the rep couldn't do anything for me I would have to wait for a call from a "Senior Support Advisor"  Well I haven't got the call and I forwarded my home to my cell and still no call.

a) Is Chase going to cancel my card?

b) What should I do when they call?

I don't ever intend to use my CC to deposit in my online sportsbook ever again.

I think the main problem is that you repeatedly tried to charge something on a card that they kept denying.

So most likely, your account is suspended for fraud prevention purposes. They most likely just want to verify your ID, to make sure you are indeed the person who's trying to make all these charges.

Most banks do not allow online gambling, since it's illegal (not for you, but for banks / sites that handle the transactions) in most states, but I don't know how strictly are those rules enforced either. Generally, it's a bad idea. But what's done is already done. If they don't bring this issue up, then keep quiet about it. If they do bring it up, then it's up to you on how you want to do things from then on. There's a (small) possibility they might close all your accounts, since it's against fed law for banks to handle online gambling transactions, and as a result Chase may want to have nothing to do with you.

No real need to worry about something that hasn't, or might not, happen. Most likely it's just an ID check for now.

I hope we aren't discussing odds on the forum?

Just a reminder, we must adhere to the TOS. Discussion of illegal activities is a no no.

Thank you,

Re: Chase CC and Online Gambling

@09Lexie

There is nothing inherently illegal about gambling. Gaming law and regulations vary greatly from one location to the next but there is nothing illegal about odds discussion. I don't think this forum is the right place for talking about odds or gambling but that has nothing to do with the legality.

I've taken care in my responses to not encourage or endorse anything illegal or any dishonesty with Chase.

Re: Chase CC and Online Gambling

Under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act(UIGEA), banks are not allowed you process those transactions. Nothing is illegal about you betting on sports online but it is illegal for banks to allow the transactions. There have been many cases where the internet gambling site listed it as golf equipment, ect. which is ILLEGAL for them to do. The US government has shut down many off shore gambling sites and many people lost all their money that they had on those sites. I would be careful and NEVER lie to your bank saying its something other than what it really is. You have done nothing wrong or illegal about online gambling but the banks have from processing illegal transactions. All of the instances so far the banks have not got into any trouble from this but the websites have been seized by the US government and the money has been confiscated.
