I got my first card with chase (CFU) with $2000 SL. (Been paying statement balance in FULL and will continue to)
I then (after 3 months) decided to apply for an Amazon Prime Visa...got approved for $6000 SL.
The next day after amazon prime visa approval, I decided you know I think it would be nicer to just consolidate limits and only manage ONE Chase card (CFU) for some time before going for the Sapphire which I would surely keep.
So, I called Chase and asked if they could close my just opened prime visa and move the entire 6K into my CFU card...she said no problem, closed Amazon card while transferring entire limit, and voila I have an 8k limit now on my CFU.
***** My question is...Am I all good? Any chance for Adverse action from chase for doing this? Something wrong or bad with what I did? Is this common/okay...customer service rep did it like it was nothing no big deal so...?
***** Will my relationship with chase be fine after this??? I really want the sapphire in the future after about 2 years from now when my 5/24 expires due to other cards AND be able to still get CLI's on my CFU to go above the 8K new limit while I wait etc. Would chase still give approve me for Sapphire later when I apply (provided I keep paying in full on CFU and keep credit solid)??? Or did I hurt my chances etc?
*****After doing the limit consolidation above (new 8K limit now), when can I expect a CLI / how long will it be before I am eligible for a CLI to go above 8K?
*****Do I need to change my spending amounts now to maintain 8K limit and not have it decreased by chase or nahh? Like is 50-100 bucks spent on it (sometimes a bit more) per month okay? No worries?
Thanks!
Don't lose any sleep over this - just keep using your CFU and PIF regularly like you have been doing. Reallocating limit between personal Chase cards is essentially a non-issue - people do it all the time - and an experienced rep wouldn't be non-plussed by that type of request. AMEX for example has a similar mindset.
There is one caveat - closing a card soon after opening it is something issuers in general don't care for and Chase is not an exception. Having done so doesn't typically put a cardholder in any kind of real risk of AA being taken on ones remaining Chase cards but I wouldn't plan on submitting a successful application with Chase for a while. Next time the better move would be to transfer most of the limit over from the new card over to the old one soon after approval and then in 12 months call and have the rep move the rest of the limit over and then close the newer card.
You won't have to change your spending to get a CLI, though I am curious why you'd take a HP, open a new account only to close it soon afterwards. Why not just request a CLI? They're two totally different cards. Why apply for the Amazon in the first place?

^^^^ This. You applied for the prime card for a reason, what was that reason?
you shouldn't have closed a new account prior to it being open for 12 months, the fact that support didn't guide you to keep $500 on the prime visa and leave the CFU at $7500 was a failure on their part, IMO
closing the account within 12 months might make Chase 'mad at you' and they might deny new accounts or CLIs for some period of time, if they do that at all, or for how long they do that, remains to be seen
unless you have derogatories on your other accounts on your credit report, I wouldn't fear you losing credit limit on your current card, regardless of the spend, just make sure it's used every 6 months-1 year

I did this same thing awhile back when I had a Chase Disney card opened that I used for a birthday trip to the happiest place on earth. I never used it afterwards, and did not want the credit line just sitting there. Ended up transferring that limit to another one of my cards, I do not recall which (either CF or CFU). Now, I am looking to the same with my CF and Chase Amazon cards, as I do not use them nearly enough to warrant keeping them open. Hopefully no issues transferring the CL to my CFU and keeping just one card with them.

**** If chase does indeed get mad, how long do you think I would have to wait until I able to successfully get approved for another chase card?
