Chase Sapphire Preferred No Activation Needed??

I just received my replacement Chase SP and noticed there is no activation require.  Is this a new thing??

Nope.  But, your card carrier should indicate that you can confirm receipt of your card by going to the Chase website or chase.com/verifycard
