Chase Trifecta Buyer's Remorse?

I am shooting for a poor man's Chase Trifecta (CSP/CFU/CF) and I still think its worth it over what I can get from my credit union between a couple of cards (x3 dine/gas/groceries/travel, x2 non-bonus spending) tapping into the bonus categories of the Freedom and travel partners.

Here I have listed the historical bonus categories for the Chase Freedom card (past 25 quarters) which I think I'll use and assuming that I'll split that cost with the Freedom Unlimited in the quarters when it doesn't fall as a bonus. For restaurants it paired with the CSP.

Gas: 10 Quarters of 25 = x2.9

Groceries: 5 Quarters of 25 = x2.2

Restauarants: 4 Quarters of 25 = x2.8

When I then multiplied the rates for each of my earning categories by x1.65 the point redemption value on Southwest/JetBlue I do much better than the credit union.

Restauarants: = x2.8 (4.62)

Groceries: = x2.2 (3.63)

Gas: = x2.9 (4.79)

Transit: = x2.0 (3.3)

Shopping: = x1.5 (2.43)

Travel: = x2.0 (3.3)

Non-Bonus: = x1.5 (2.43)

Even in transit & travel where its only a x2 earner the net value is better than x3 of the credit union. Even in shopping and non-bonus where its not an x2 cash back by itself it does better than the credit union. With a CSR those numbers come out to be x3.8 (6.27) dine and 3.0 (4.95) transit. Note that dine with a CSR/CFU almost averages out to the x4.0 of the Gold.

This doesn't count flash sales or bonuses to the transfer partners. Chase had a 30% bonus to British Airways this past summer. The Chase shopping portal has better bonuses than what the credit union generally has too.

Are you sure you are getting 1.65cpp on WN and B6? When I tried in the past, WN is always 1.45, B6 is close to 1.2.

And btw, I would consider wells frogo trifacta better than cF/cfU/csP if csR's perks are not in the discussion.

I think what I did here was take the price I caluclated in the morning before the SW tickets went on sale and then found a point equivalent after they went on sale. The 1.65 is Fair Sale + Points.

With x1.45 my hypothesis still holds up pretty good.

Restauarants: = x2.8 (4.06)

Groceries: = x2.2 (3.19)

Gas: = x2.9 (4.21)

Transit: = x2.0 (2.9)

Shopping: = x1.5 (2.18)

Travel: = x2.0 (2.9)

Non-Bonus: = x1.5 (2.18)

The exception is Travel and Transit don't quite work out to the x3 of the credit union.

While I never looked at WF because you its only cash back i always value UR/MR/TYP> Cash back, I could make the argument that CIP/CFU/CF is the better chase trifecta for travel , but that would also depend on how much you eat out. I personally have CFU/CF/CIP/Ink cash for my UR , only one card with AF. I get 5x staples, Cell phone , cable. 3x travel, and have cell phone insurance + 3x if i don't want 5x from ink cash. You can substitute ink unlimited in place of freedom unlimited if you don't want the extra new account on your credit report.
