I had the $99 version of the Citi American Airlines card. It was due for the annual fee in September so I downgraded it to the no AF card in August. Just saw that I got a $99 credit for the AF. I checked and definately did not pay the AF this year, and certainly didn't expect last year's AF to be credited after 11 months. Any idea if this was a mistake or does Citi credit the full year with no pro-rating for the full year?

Good deal!
Did they charge you the AF for the new year? Sounds like they either slid one in plus then fixed it with a credit or you just got lucky as there was a bank error for $99.

No, I checked the statements for last 3 months for both the old and new cards, I also checked my bank account to make sure I had never paid the AF to Citi since 2023 and I hadn't. I do have a $99 AF credit on the new card. The only thing I use that card for regularly is a streaming service subscription just to make sure it stays active.
