Re: Citi DC WEMC?

So, just to add a data point to this discussion, I have used the car rental insurance on my company Visa. The process was a little cumbersome but it saved me a ton of money.

I also know of people who have used the purchase protection benefit of their credit cards.  I'm about to have to buy some appliances for my kid going away to college so that seems like a crucial benefit condiering how clumsy he is.

So yeah... it matters.

Car rental insurance is provided on almost all premium non rebuilder cards, so I definately do not consider this a WEMC or Signature benefit. Purchase protection maybe so, but I do not know anyone to actually collect on it, and extended warranties are also a mainly standard benefit. Still waiting to hear from someone who has actually saved or collected money on the benefits provided for WEMC or Signature cards that is not a benefit on lower tier cards. This is the point, for all the desire people have for the WEMC and Signature cards, I think you ought to see at least an occasional post where someone says...glad I got the WEMC version of the card, it saved my bacon...You just never see these kind of posts. You see posts about collecting rewards and SUB daily. You see people getting real benefit from BT and 0% offers all the time, but those are also not WEMC or Signature benefits.

Several of my regular and Platinum Cards offer the benefits you reference in your post. Many years ago there was a big difference between Classic (regular), Gold and Platinum Cards where the benefits were quite specific but at least in my herd of cards it is hard to tell the difference.

Re: Citi DC WEMC?

Well, that's kinda part of my question.  Is there much of a difference in the benefits offeredd by the WEMC Citi DC vs. the lower tier?  If not, then it's not as big a deal, just an aesthetic difference for me.

And, you know, sometimes status is nice.  Half of us wouldn't be in this game if we didn't care about that.

Yeah...status seems to matter to the young...guess I outgrew that. The flashy cars and credit cards hold no interest for me anymore. They just sent me the metal version of the Chase Amazon Prime card...it works exactly like the plastic version did. I really only care that a card works at the POS and has the advertised rewards. What they look like or the cards appeal as a status symbol is useless...I don't even care if the card causes snickering at the checkout counter. It could say deadbeat secure visa on the face of the card and as long as it has the visa or MC emblem and works, I'll use it without shame. Make it 3% cash back rewards I'll use it almost exclusively, who knows they might even think I'm dirt poor and cut me a better deal.

Re: Citi DC WEMC?

sarge12 in my personal experiences today, I hand my card to a customer service person virtually never now. Even in many eateries I handle the transaction. Unlike the days of old where I used to get comments on how cool it looks and so on, no one sees it. Hotels might be one exception but otherwise not a big eye catcher. Even had Chase send me a plastic version of the CSP as I didn't want to carry around the metal version (oh I know not cool but very functional).

Functional is all that matters...+100...I feel for the person paying 995 dollar AF for the 24k gold plated Luxury Gold Mastercard...impress me not, LOL

So is everyone just going to sit there and judge or does someone have an answer to my question?

It may end up that it is already a WMC, or WEMC and if not, I have no experience in how Citi, or for that matter any other issuer handles upgrades. I have read some posters in the past saying they were expecting non WEMC, yet recieved a WEMC, so this has happened before.

Re: Citi DC WEMC?

@MrDisco99...you might try searching here and on google for Citi doublecash WEMC upgrade, as I'm sure someone has experience with it, but for that person to see this title post and be able to answer that might take a while, aside from that I can't think of anything to help. Sorry you took my comments as critisism, I just keep hoping someone will come back and tell me a real practical benefit I might get a use from the added benefits.
