I agree 100% completely with you. I personally feel like if you have a new account and the offer exists, there should be no reason to not provide the offer. It's about building morale and a relationship with customers.

If what offer exists?   A targeted offer to a select group of customers?  In that case, to me, it makes no sense to say they should provide the offer, the point of targeted offers is to attract the target group by offering extra incentives, they really don't want to do the same with others.     Yes, good PR maybe, but potentially expensive, and if they don't value your account enough, why should they!

And while some issuers don't adopt this:  If I were an issuer, I would be somewhat less incliined to value an account where someone was making a lot of noise to get $100 extra.  If that $100 is so important, can I really be expecting a lot of revenue from that account going forward.   Sure, there are a lot of rich people who are very careful about getting the maximum, but I'm sure that is dwarfed by not-so-rich people going after the maximum!

I was referencing the previous members' situation where he was solicitated for the offer and they still did not honor the offer. If the offer exists and he/she is eligable, why make it such a big deal?

OH, I agree in that case.   There are three situations usually reported here:

1) I applied for an offer and the issuer won't honor it, usually saying that their systems show that I applied for a different  offer.   Certainly worth pursuing with EOs etc.  Seems to be happening with a lot of issuers, maybe just bad IT.

2) I apply for a card and shortly after a better public offer comes out.   No obligation on issuers to be nice, but Chase, for example, has no problem giving the better offer.

3) I apply for a card and later become aware of a better non-public offer.    That is what I was mentioning above, but if it was really case 1, then yes, fight!

Yes Smiley Happy Glad you agree, I believe his/her case is case #1. My case was #3 and I can understand why the CC company wouldn't honor it. It was worth a shot as I saw others who tried and were successful in obtaining the offer. I'm just bitter that the outcome wasn't positive lol!

Re: Citi Double Cash Card - 200 Cash Back Bonus

For those who are curios and need closure or reason to stop trying, this is the message Citi sent:

Dear Tobago_88

I appreciate your patience while I reviewed your account.

We are aware of websites and blogs publishing copies of our solicitations. The original solicitations were sent to eligible potential customers only.

Citi has made the decision not to match this offer for those that were not directly solicited. Therefore, we are unable to add this offer to your account.

We understand you may be dissatisfied with the final resolution of your inquiry. However, we have exhausted all avenues available in an attempt to assist you with this matter.

We strive to provide the best possible customer service in the industry, and hope we were able to meet those expectations.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones then. I found a supervisor over the phone that matched the offer and thanked me for being a card member Smiley Happy

They shouldn't have an offer like this if they can't afford to treat all card members equally.

One's self of entitlement doesn't dicatate how creditors should handle offers.  As Citi indicated in their reply this was a targeted offer.  I can certainly understand shooting for an offer if one wasn't targeted but one has to have a reasonable expectation that one might get denied.

This shows a weakness in their level of service and also shows the customer is not the priority.

You can't discern a trend based solely on your one experience.  No trend can ever be extrapolated from a single data point.  You bring up customer service but just because a company is unwilling to extend a targeted offer to you when you were not targeted doesn't mean that their customer service is deficient.  I can understand being disappointed in not receiving an offer but, again, keep the sense of entitlement in check.

Sorry I'm still unfamiliar with some of the terms. What does EO mean?

I was going to point you here

...but it's not on the list for some reason.
