Citi Prestige through product conversion?

Citi Prestige through product conversion?

So I was able to successfully PC to the Citi Prestige over the phone. A couple of issues arose and I'm hoping someone can clarify things for me.

1. I remember reading somewhere that Citi can expedite a Prestige since it's their Premium card. However, I was told by the rep that it can't be expedited since this is a "new" card. I reminded her that it's not really new since I'm doing a product change. She put me in hold to ask her supervisor. The rep then confirmed what she said earlier and that this is considered a new card and that I'll have to wait for it to be sent by snail mail. So how did people get their Prestige expedited?

2. The rep said it can take up to 51 days for the product change to finish. After the phone call, I went online and I noticed the Prestige is now in my account. I was assigned a new card number with the last 4 digits displayed. There is also a message in the old card indicating that a product change is occurring. My card haven't been shipped yet. So in the mean time, will I be earning points under the Prestige rate for my old card's rate? I had my old Citi card added to Samsung Pay. What happens now if I were to use my phone for payment at a restaurant?

3. Since I got a new account number, how will this affect my Chase 5/24 status? From my perspective, this shouldn't affect things since this isn't a new account. The rep confirmed that my old account history will transfer over. Is this true? I last received a Citi TY SUB in November 2019. Can I apply for another Citi Thank you card like another Prestige and receive a new SUB in November/December 2021?

4. Since I got a new account number, will this reset the clock on my old card on when I'll be eligible for a SUB from that family of cards?

5. If I cancel the conversion between now and the next 51 days, what is the consequence?

6. So a few hours after I made the product change, I went ahead and made a purchase with my Citi AA card. No transaction appears online for either my AA or Prestige cards. Yet, the transaction went through. My Prestige doesn't appear to be linked to my Citi Premier card as I can't see my Thank You balance from the Prestige page.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

2. You have 51 days to reverse the product change.  What they mean is that the conversion is not final until then.  You began earning as if the card was a Prestige as soon as you did the PC.  Not sure if Citi cards automatically update in Apple/Samsung/GooglePay but since your existing card is still active you should be okay for now but may need to update it once you get the new card.

3. Are you sure the account number has changed?   If so, it will just replace the existing entry on your credit reports.  In my experience there was no card number change when doing Citi PCs.  The 24 month rule is 24 months after receiving a SUB or closing a card in the family.  Since it was a PC and not a closure, you should be eligible around that timeframe.

4. Either way this should make no difference other than #3.

5. You will revert to having the previous card.

6. Citi IT is infamous for some bugs.  I would give it a few days at least for their system to catch up.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

My mobile wallet didn't update. The card is still displayed as a Citi AA card. My Citi AA card does work as I had used it to make a restaurant purchase.

Yep, the account number did changed. During the PC, the rep wasn't sure, but told me since I'm converting from AA to TY, the odds are high that the account number will change. As soon as the phone call ended, I went online and I noticed ingot a new number with only the last 4 digits displayed. How will this affect my Chase 5/24 slots?

I read that if the account number changes, then the SUB eligibility is reset. Seems like there are different opinions on this matter? I guess I need some data points.

Do you know if Citi can expedite a Prestige card? I think I read that it was possible, buy the rep and supervisor said no since this is a "new" card even though I did a product change.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

I've PC'd with Citi quite a few times over the years. Yes you're going to get a new account number. The 51 days mentioned is your "remorse" period. You'll start earning TYPs under the Prestige structure when you get your card. After 51 days has passed you can no longer return back to your previous card.

Your card will come a lot sooner than they say, within a week for sure. I can't speak to the resetting of the clock as it relates to TYP subs.

Even though you're getting a new card with a new card number it will not report as a new account, the history will carry over from your previous card.

It'll take a couple of days for things to change over and you to start seeing transactions on the new Prestige card. A few days after that and all of your previous transactions will soon transfer over to the new card.

Citi is well...Citi when it comes to stuff like this. But know that it'll all shake out in the end.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

Sorry, but I'm still a little confused. So for that one restaurant purchase that I made after I successfully PC to the Citi Prestige, will that be under the AA warning rate of 2 miles per dollar or the Prestige rate of 5 points per dollar? Obviously I am not using the Prestige card as I haven't received it.

Judging from the way how you responded to my post, I guess my Prestige count as a new card so it can't be expedited? Even though this is a premium card?

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

Any purchase that was made after your account changed will be earned under the Prestige structure.

As for the expediting of the card, no, they won't do it and they don't even do it for new accounts., you're going to have to wait for USPS. However, in my previous experience, all cards have arrived within a week.

But since you're still using your previous card and it'll be earning under the new structure, when the card actually arrives won't matter much at all.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

So under no circumstance Citi will courier the card? It's always USPS?

Thanks for the clarification and I guess you're right, I essentially have the Prestige since I did the product change and my AA card is with me. It would be nice to have that sexy looking card with me.

So are there any limitations such as transaction limits since I don't have the Prestige card with me and activated? How much longer can I use my AA card as the Prestige?

I just logged into my Citi account and I notice the timeline screen showing when the card is shipped and processed have disappeared. How do I know when the Prestige will be mailed other than to call them?

As mentioned a few times upthread, Citi will not expedite the card.  You'll receive it by mail soon enough.  An email is typically generated once the card ships, there is no tracking number.  Once you receive it, activate it and you can stop using the other card.

There have been very rare cases for new cards being expedited, and by new cards I mean a brand new application, not a product upgrade or change.

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

So the first transaction that I made after the product change to the Prestige was at KFC. Originally, it popped under my AA account. It was $3.09. It finally posted in my AA account, but there's a separate line indicating that it was transferred to my Prestige account. For $3.09, it shows that I earned 6 miles with the transaction. So I guess it rounded down and it appears to earn under the AA rate. Citi Prestige earns 5x for dining so I should have earned at least 15 points on that transaction. Now what?

After I receive and activate my Prestige, will Citi remove the AA account from my Citi home page?

Thanks!

Re: Citi Prestige through product conversion?

Once you receive the Prestige card and activate it, the Citi home page will continue to display the standard "in-process" conversion message under the AA account - this is normal.  Transactions will automatically transfer to Prestige.  Once you start using the Prestige card, you can have the AA acount unlinked from your profile (there will be a link provided).
