If you are not using the account, close it. Closed account stays on your credit report for 10 years. So you won't see a hit on AAoA within these 10 years.
This is just not always true unfortunately. It is up to 10 years but can fall off much sooner, especially if you have a large file. I had some excellent closed accounts that were deleted years before the 10 year mark with no explanation and no way to reinsert them.

you could try the CFPB (consumer financial protections bureau) they can slap CRA's silly.

ok, Thank you!
If you want it closed, just close it. It makes no difference on a report who closes it. If you want it open, use it every few months or so.
My Macys account will probably be closed. I hardly shop there anymore.
I'm afraid Walmart will close my Discover card b/c I don't use it and haven't used it once since getting it 3 months ago. I only have it for the free FICO. Lol.
