I called Comenity Bank for the two lines of credit (AAA Visa & AMEX Rewards.) I spoke with two reps and two sups. I asked them whether it will be a soft or a hard inquiry should I request a credit line increase, and they told me that as a bank, they are not qualified to answer that question. They referred me to the credit bureaus (specifically Experian.) How iditioc right?
I told them that should I call the credit bureau, they will tell me the same thing, that I need to call my bank to get the answer because they don't own the bank(s) or handle the bank(s) policies. To start, it's extremely hard to speak with a live rep, especially Experian. All the banks I have or had credit cards with have told me whether it will be a soft or hard inquiry before I proceed. So...
Does someone have any of these two cards (AAA Visa and AMEX Rewards) and have requested a credit line increase within the past 6 months? If so, what was your experience?
I have a feeling that the system will decide whether it will be a soft or hard inquiry at the time I make the request, but I don't want a hard inquiry just for requesting a line increase.
they do both SP increases and HP increases, no way to know afaik
Thanks!
As far as I know Comenity does SP on credit line increase request. I have 3 of Comenity credit cards the Visa,Amx, and AAA daily Visa. All CLI was SP.
I have three Bread/Comenity cards, the Bread Cashback AmEx, the NFL Broncos Extra Point Visa, and the Petco Pay Mastercard. Every time I have asked for a CLI, they have all been SP's and I have had a CLI on all three within the last 3 months, and I have asked for CLI's on all three of those cards multiple times and they have all always been SP's.
I also have the Dell Pay Credit account that was acquired by Comenity from the old DFS (I forget who the servicer was when it was Dell Financial Services). On that particular account, I pushed the CLI button for that and it ended up being a HP. That was more than a year ago though, probably closer to 18 months. Now that may have been because I hadn't asked for a CLI on that account after it had been acquired by Comenity, but that's just conjecture on my part. Haven't touched the CLI button on that account since though.
