The standard offer is 30k miles with $1000 spend in 3 months.

The targeted offer is 50k miles with $2000 spend in 3 months, with the option of 5k more miles for adding an additional user and them making a purchase. The rumor on getting targeted is to gain some United miles. I joined their dining program last month and gained 1000 miles that way, so there seems to be some truth to it.

If you don't have the targetted offer, send a secured message to Chase. This seems to do the trick most of the time according to travel blogs and flyertalk.

Mileage Explorer has an annual fee and Freedom does not. If someone wants the explorer they should just apply for it and not give up the freedom card. The freedom card is a nice card to have and is something to keep long term to help with AAOAs, not to mention rotating category bonuses that pair well with CSP,Ink plus/Bold.
